"Last year I had the intention of recording a mix with a focus on drums and set a few records aside. I never got around to doing it as I didn’t feel inspired and the records got filed away. I recently went to a painting for decision making workshop and it reminded me how much I enjoyed being creative and how important creativity is for my mind. I was inspired to try the mix again. Some of the originals made it, some new ones and some favourites."

On this special edition of SMS, I  traced the musical history of one of the most brilliant and boundary-pushing electronic music producers out there, @lorainejames. 
We shared a cute talk about her productions and the so awaited album "Gentle  Confrontation", to be released this month on @hyperdub Records and premiered on @berlinatonal Festival 

Loraine James (Hyperdub / AD93 / Phantom Limb) is a producer who uses a minimalist setup and unbound creativity, she utilizes IDM, glitch aesthetics with an improvisational, jazz-rooted spirit and a unique talent for integrating her diverse influences into cohesive and emotive pieces.

"Nobody sounds like Loraine, she can take the most apparently chaotic sonic madness of drums and make something sensitive and interesting. There’s an architectural quality to the music of Loraine James: minimalist arrangements frequently morph into spasmodic outbursts as she attempts to map the unpredictable happenings of her inner world . She has developed a recognizable style defined largely by its shapeshifting qualities—knotty electronic rhythms, contorted synths, tumultuous bursts punctuated by passages of dulcet calm"
