Born Tyrone Dwyane Hunter in the district of Louisburg, St. Mary, Jamaica, Tyrone attended the Lucky Hill Basic School and Grateful Hill Primary School and finished his high school education at Glenoffe High in the parish of St. Catherine.

 

From an early age he had a raw passion for music. His early musical influences were Delroy Wilson, Toots and The Maytals, Dennis Browne, Lt Stitchie, Super Cat, and Buju Banton. Every time his dad's boom-box was turned on, Tyrone was there until it turned off. His dad would play cassette tapes from the late 70's and 80’s to the current style of Reggae, Dancehall, Ska and on Sunday mornings it was strictly gospel. 

 

By the early 90s, Tyrone would get involved in lyrical clashes with his primary school friends for fun. These encounters would help to shape his budding talent and skills. Close to the end of his primary school journey he discovered his voice. 

When some friends pointed out that he had a better singing voice than his DJ style, he started to practice singing more often. During his last year of Primary school, Tyrone would join the school choir where he was given basic vocal training. 

 

While attending school at Glenoffe High, he continued to hone his craft. Tyrone gained popularity within his very first year, when a classmate notified his teacher that he was a good singer. She had attended the same primary school and was very much aware of his singing capabilities.

 

Tyrone was selected by his form teacher to sing at their school devotion as It was their class's turn to lead the service. This alternated weekly where the other classes would be given the same opportunity to lead Devotional Service. 

Tyrone sang a rendition of Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings” and instantly garnered popularity. 

 

By this time, he was participating in many of the school's entertainment activities. These would include talent shows, fetes, concerts, and barbecues just to name a few. He was also a member of the school choir and later became a member of an accapella group in his last year of high school. 

 

Fresh out of high school Tyrone migrated to Kingston to further his education, and simultaneously sourced recording studios and guidance towards embarking on his musical journey 

 

Tyrone practiced his craft at every opportunity. Whether it be at home, on the street corner with other aspiring singers and djs, or even on the local Sound Systems that would afford him the opportunity to “Bless the Mic”.

 

Benjaminz was not his original stage name, but it became the stage name that Tyrone would claim as his own after some DJs and singers who were more professionally established gave him that name due to flashy dress-style and blinged out earrings. They said he looked like the US One Hundred Dollar Bill. Meaning that he was ‘Clean and Fresh’. 

 

Benjaminz was now recording demos in several small studios across Kingston while working on his sing-jay style as a young and upcoming reggae and dancehall artist.

 

By the mid 2000's, Benjaminz migrated to Barbados with his family. This was where he first started recording music professionally. Benjaminz worked with many producers while living on the island.

 

In 2007 Benjaminz was introduced to a producer by a fellow artist and friend. This producer was Daddy Norman and he was on vacation in Barbados but was based in the United Kingdom. 

 

Daddy Norman produced Benjaminz’ very first album "Money Can't Buy Love" on the Afro Downbeat label which was released in Barbados and the United kingdom. The album did rather well and accorded Benjaminz some media coverage in Barbados. 

 

Young Benjaminz continued to work with producers based in Barbados, Jamaica, UK, and Europe. 2012 was the year when Benjaminz 

Scored some great success in his burgeoning career. He was featured on the Corner Stone Riddim Compilation, where he recorded the single “Tell Me When” and collaborated with Kingsley Anowi on the single "Let me" which was produced by Xandor Records. 

 

Benjaminz’ “Tell Me When” made it's way on to the Cross Caribbean Video Countdown 

On the Tempo Television Network Channel where it stayed 12 weeks on the charts

and 8 weeks at Number 1. He followed up with the single "Let Me Take You Away” which also did very well on several charts including in the Caribbean and Japan. 

His career began to progress steadily. Benjaminz was now making appearances 

at big events such as Soca Titans and Hennessey Artistry in Barbados where he resided. The Jamaican singer was now sharing the stage with the likes of Mavado, Baby Cham, Gyptian, and Machel Montana to name few.

 

The now more polished and experienced Benjaminz was ready to take on the world

and start a new chapter. He migrated to the United States in early 2015.

By 2017, Benjaminz who was now more settled and adjusted, released several singles such as “My Love, Slow Loving, Mummy Son Dis”, and the ‘Get Dat Money” EP.

 

Benjaminz teamed up with Argentinian Digital Dub style producer Micronomade in the year of 2018 and collaborated on the single "Original " which did very well on the digital dub scene. Shortly after, Benjaminz was invited to Argentina for a mini tour.

Benjaminz continued to work with micronomade on his Wami Label which resulted in the production of his second album titled "Benjaminz Meets Micronomade in 2019.

 

Benjaminz has carved a path into the Latin American reggae community via his South American alliance Micronomade who would later introduce him to Los Tercermundistas Backing Band based in Rosario Argentina. The band wasted no time, they went straight 

into production mode after connecting with Benjaminz. In August 2021 the album titled "I'll Never Quit " was released followed by the "I'll Never Quit" Tour 2022 in the cities of

Buenos Aires, Rosario, and San Luis Argentina. 

 

Benjaminz also released the "Let's Make Love" Ep on the Astro Melody Record Label in 2022 which is in heavy rotation. 

 

Benjaminz is currently recording new music and performing his growing catalogue internationally and locally. 

 

In July of 2022, Benjaminz toured Mexico with his mentor and friend Micronomade.

He continues to work hard and share his talent with fans and supporters.
