Mix of old Caspa tracks from 2006-2010. Along with Rusko, Caspa is probably seen as the main cause of dubstep's rapid descent into obnoxious noisy drivel. And, to be fair, they were clearly both pretty happy to take the money and run. Still, a lot of Caspa's early stuff is just sick. Proper ravey and mental. Remember seeing him play the opening set at FWD in 2006 when there were about 30 people there and Rusko was jumping about like a nutter. Anyway yeah, while he (and his label Dub Police) undoubtedly helped dubstep become a load of boring nonsense, no-one can test these early tracks. Also, Velvet Rooms is absolutely wicked! He should've made more 2step garage..

Hailing from South London, the producer and DJ has been a leading figure in electronic music since the early 2000s, who as part of the legendary DMZ crew and label, pioneered a genre rooted in sound system culture – a genre we know now as dubstep.

In 2006, Mala founded his label @deep-medi-musik as a platform for more experimental releases. It has remained a vital force in underground bass music, with a roster of artists including Kaiju, Silkie and Goth-Trad.

Twenty years since Mala first made his mark on the scene, his influence is as strong as ever. For this episode of Carhartt WIP Radio, the legendary producer and DJ created a mix featuring tracks from the DEEP MEDi vault, alongside some new releases. The mix is accompanied by an interview, as Mala discusses the duality of art and science in music-making, his ethos of “building” sounds, and the significance of an artist’s story in their work. The world of dance music is at times, really missing melody. There are too many songs that just feed you one weird sound again and again and again. But that's fine, they have their time and place but so does Foxsky's "The Whip." This is music from a Zelda game of tomorrow,  A Link to the Future 2099. You'll find yourself air pianoing this song after the first listen. It's 8 bit cinematic floor filler at moombahton tempo that ends with victorious, "we're heading home, we won the mission" vibes. And if the original wasn't enough, we have packed the release with huge remixes.  Jeffree alumni ETC!ETC! and The Reef each give their own take on the "The Whip", these are huge. We also find newcomer VASS with a massive trap remix that we can't get off repeat, then we finish it off with Udachi's dark bmore club influenced reimagination of Foxsky's banger.&#13;
