303 Dreams

A mix in collaboration with the excellent Lucid Steps Blog exploring underground electronic music's most exciting new genre. For a long time the sound was based entirely on the internet, being made by producers of all ages across the globe.  Once many of these artists realised others were making similar music, they began to communicate and collaborate. In the interest of keeping the movement succinct and pertinent, the term 'Wave' was coined. If you wish to find out more about how the genre emerged, and how it is progressing, I strongly suggest reading Sapphire Plant's recent article in this year's May edition of MixMag (http://mixmag.net/feature/wave-the-emotive-new-genre-with-its-own-icy-ecosystem) and checking out her aforementioned Lucid Steps Blog (http://lucidstepss.blogspot.co.uk/) for interviews with some of the artists.

This particular composition explores the mixing potential of the genre, as the tunes were not initially built with the club or DJ in mind, and span a wide array of tempos. I tried to use a wide variety of artists from around the world, and also threw in some non-Wave tracks in order to add my own flavour and further show the potential that the music has to be played out in clubs, and blended with other bass music genres. Since making this mix (there was a long time between recording it and putting it out) there has been some excellent new music released, most notably the latest wavemob compilation, Plastician's fantastic 'Wavepool 2' compilation, and the steady string of strong releases on Kareful, LTHL & Stohou's new Liquid Ritual label. If there is any interest for it then I may make a new mix in the coming months showcasing these new tracks.
