May is the month of the Taurus and alot of my favorite musical legends & artists happened to be Tauruses; like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, & Ghostface Killah...and ironically, I'm a Taurus as well. My birthday falls on May 10th...and to continue the tradition of sharing some goodies in honor of my birthday as well as for my fellow Tauruses, I'm posting up this mix I did a few years back. I always wanted to do a mix on James Brown, but I realized that no one can do a James Brown mix better than my brother & fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc, so scratch that. I thought of doing one on Ghostface Killah, but I already did one a few years ago for the Ghostface Killah doll (which is now posted on my Soundcloud page). Strike number 2! Last but not least, there's the legendary Stevie Wonder. I know that Dj Spinna & Bobbito Garcia aka Cucumber Slice are the masters when it comes to Stevie's catalogue, but I actually made a mix that was originally a birthday gift for a good friend and is a big Stevie Wonder fan. Today is Mr. Stevie Wonder's birthday (May 13), so I thought to myself, why not share it again with the people and also celebrate Stevie's birthday....I just added an intro to the mix, and what you have now, is "Wonderlove". STEVIE WONDER Acer Arena, October 22 

"ARE you with me? Are we together?" cried Stevie Wonder at the top of a reggae-tinged Master Blaster, asking perhaps the most superfluous question in the history of questions. If love was in need of love in 1976 - as the man born Stevland Hardaway Judkins put it on his classic album Songs In The Key Of Life - there was certainly no shortage of it last night. Wonder gave love, dedicating the whole show to the Four Tops singer Levi Stubbs, who died this week, before a jubilant rendition of the soul band's classic I Can't Help Myself. (It ended with Wonder crying visible tears.) And boy, did he receive love. Before his daughter, Aisha Morris, had even led him all the way to his piano and banks of keyboards, the sold-out arena screamed with adulation. Wonder at first just ambled towards the centre of the stage, beat-boxing to himself. Then he pulled out a harmonica, jammed along with his band to a Miles Davis jazz classic and pretty much earned every last scream. His band was deliciously tight - a crack 14-piece unit including multiple horns, guitars and percussionists - and their leader almost shone with the star power and charisma you expected. You can still see that he really feels the music, loves hearing it and can't get enough of playing it. Sure, but it's hard to think he could put a foot wrong. Really, he could have just stood at the stage for two hours humming to himself and this would have been a triumph. As it was, he played some mighty fine soul and funk as well as the occasional flourish of jazz and reggae groove. By the end of the show we'd seen it all. A suspiciously good singer, "plucked out of the audience", duetting with his idol; a barrage of hits, good and not so good (but still irresistible), often jazzed up. And the presentation of a lifetime achievement award for sales in excess of 1 million in Australia before a roof-raising Superstition. It was all about the love.

STEVIE WONDER Tribute Mix - Living Just Enough For The City (2008) | SOUL OF SYDNEY 157

As someone who started Dj'ing in the 90s, I though it was probably time I put a mix together of some of the classic jams we used to get down to back in the day.
Like any era, there's a lot of BS online about what we were really listening to, but I like to think this is an honest representation of what was going on, at least for a South London boy.

Intentionally avoided too much housey stuff, UK garage, DnB and nu school breaks as I reckon that will all deserve it's own mix though kicking off with a few RnB gems, some early funky & feel good 90s hip hop, acid jazz as well as a nod to the Big Beat movement and naturally a few dance classics to finish.

Hope you all like it. Took a while to put together though good fun taking that journey back and rediscovering some quality jams. Tried to avoid too many avoid choices but hopefully some classic vibes to give everyone a taste of some of that 90s goodness!!!
