Rift makes a powerful return on Dispatch Limited with the Black & Gold EP, a five-track collection that marks a fresh chapter in his sound. After stepping back from production to reset his creative direction, Rift channels a rawer approach, drawing on the influence of early 2000s drum & bass while weaving in the tense, atmospheric qualities of cinematic scores. The result is an EP that feels both stripped-back and expansive, balancing heavy pressure with eerie, suspenseful sound design.

The project is also shaped by visual art. The title track, “Black & Gold,” was the first piece written for the EP, sparked by inspiration from Bill Elis’ artwork. The visual tone of his work set the foundation not only for the track itself but also for the identity of the full release.

Across the EP, Rift explores themes of unease and intensity. From the brooding atmospheres of “Teardrops” and “Paralysed” to the rolling momentum of “Tremors” and “Sinners,” the journey culminates in the title track’s stark and cinematic presence. Each cut feels deliberately crafted, reflecting both a reverence for drum & bass history and a forward-focused creative vision.

The Black & Gold EP has already gained strong support across the scene, with Philth playing a central role in championing the tracks both in sets and during the production process. Additional support has come from Enta and Cause4Concern, underlining the impact of Rift’s return.

After selling out Belgium’s most impressive arena several times over, yearly gathering 15,000 bassheads from around the world, and launching a series of successful compilation albums, the biggest drum&bass and dubstep party in the world is now launching its own imprint, Rampage Recordings. A&R’ed by head honcho Murdock, Rampage Recordings will be showcasing different styles and vibes, covering both drum&bass and dubstep. Focussing on the acts that will play the event in 2018 for now, the label will be dropping a series of samplers, leading up to this year’s compilation album, with contributions confirmed by the likes of Turno, Barely Alive, Voltage, Virtual Riot, Upgrade, Current Value, Franky Nuts, Maduk, Lifecycle and more. Later into next year, expect full single and EP releases from some of the most exciting acts in the drum&bass and dubstep world, as well as remixes of big tunes of a-list artists.



We kick things off with the Sampler 01, which boasts this year’s Rampage anthem by Murdock & Doctrine, a hard rockin stomper that is confirmed as next week’s "René’s Rinse Out” on René LaVice’s new BBC Radio1 show, and will up on UKF a few days later. Next up is Billain with one of his trademark takes on future sonics, preparing us for his Hyperbinary show at Rampage, and we close things off with a classic bassline banger from the studio of Serum & Bladerunner, two of the Kings of The Rollers.

Technique Recordings head-honcho’s @DrumsoundandBasslineSmith have had a massive year; adding to this their remix of @KennyKen’s iconic track “Everyman” and they’re looking to continue their explosive takeover of 2019. 

War on Silence debuted to the drum and bass scene in November 2018 and since this point they’ve had a consistent stream of stellar releases - spearheading outputs from the likes of Heist, Funtcase, Malux, Teddy Killerz, its creator Crissy Criss and many more. And following their forthcoming release, a remix from Drumsound & Bassline Smith, it’s certain to say they won’t be slowing down with their high calibre flow of records.

With the original legendary track also featuring DRS (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), it was first dropped in 1994, before being reworked by legends such as Kenny Ken himself, Benny Page, DJ Monk as well as a host of other taste making names over the years. Each time, the benchmark has been set even higher from the original; every artist has added their own signature palette with every version. Boasting of 24 years of history, the remix criterion is once again about to be brought through a new lens, although this time by Drumsound & Bassline Smith who add their own signature flavours along with the 2019 jungle drum and bass texture.

When Drumsound & Bassline Smith take on Kenny Ken’s “Everyman” you can instantly detect their moniker, peddling a different vibe whilst infusing a high level of energy, something which can be witnessed throughout their live sets. The junglist vocals offer the original warmth to the track, setting it up to face the twisting of its drop. It’s first breakdown will propel its listener across any dancefloor and with each almighty roar, it flourishes with the heavyweight crisp bass credentials Drumsound & Bassline Smith have become renowned for. 

It’s a remix perfect enough to deliver to the treasury of releases War on Silence have been building since their launch, as well as a remix which presents another stunning addition to the collection of revamps which have been 24 years in the making.

Their city was in shambles. Under the iron grip of a hostile takeover by a global megacorporation, the once thriving metropolis had ground to a halt. Bustling streets had become paths for ghosts alone, and at night the city’s vibrant neon glow shone ominously above their silent forms. Looming above it all was the new headquarters built by the megacorp, a massive superstructure reaching higher than the city’s most prominent spires. Visible citywide, its presence was a symbol of their dominion, an ever present reminder of the population’s new overlords.

It was under the gaze of this monolithic structure that a single vehicle traveled, a phantom on the empty streets that traveled with sleek efficiency. Inside sat two brothers, identical in both appearance and devotion to their sole cause. Natives of this once great city, they carried with them the key to its salvation and all the weight that it bore. As they tore through the boulevards of its heart they made no effort to hide their presence, choosing to announce themselves with the roar of their engine in the knowledge that they had surely already been seen. Still they pushed on, united in the pursuit of a single goal. Together, they knew that their mission could see their end, but in their righteous duty they bore not a single reservation. As they passed the titanic headquarters of the corporation, the brother at the wheel slowed but for a moment, allowing his twin to strike with an aim precise and true. From the window of the vehicle flew a small round device, which shattered the headquarters front door with a crash. Slamming pedal to the floor the brothers erupted forth, further forwards, and their engine roared in defiance as alarms and sirens erupted beside them. Though they knew all too pursuers would do, their task was complete and they had seen its course through. In five simple minutes a great fireball would rip that behemoth to shreds, and whether captured or free the brothers had NO REGRETS.
