I've been hosting a radio show on WSUM 91.7 FM, the student-run station based in Madison, Wisconsin, since May of 2018—but I haven’t posted any recordings until now.  This is something a little different from anything I have put up in the past so I thought I would share. Stay tuned for upcoming volumes....

Every Thursday night at 8 PM Central Time, I DJ live from the WSUM studio. As a UW Madison alumni, it’s great to stay connected with the school. I try to capture a different vibe each week, often pulling in old tracks I haven’t heard in a while—not just focusing on the latest releases. Everything is done live and on the fly, based on whatever I’m feeling.

This isn’t a polished mix or an edited radio set. I talk a few times during the hour to let listeners know what’s playing. I figured I would keep it raw, even if not perfect.

This set featured an eclectic blend of sounds on the chill tip. From head-nodding downtempo to old school fusion and on to acid-y beats and breaks.  We had a lot of fun playing this set and it was different than what we were spinning for most of the shows around that time.

I felt like playing a set that was funkier than usual and with a bit more of a party vibe for this 5 hour set at South Bowl in Philadelphia. There's a wide range of tempos here and I started off with some of my favorite downtempo beats and breaks, even touching on jazz, drum n bass, and hiphop. However as the night progressed the dance floor was the focus and it's all big basslines and weird funky house and techno.

14 years ago I recorded a party mix using nothing but old school breakdance electro-funk and hip-hop records from 1982-1985. Instead of uploading it, I had an idea of "Revisiting" this old mix by digging out all of the records and making a brand new, remixed version of it for 2017. Ever since I was a little kid bumping Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" on my Fischer Price boombox I've been obsessed with this music. From the 808 drums and funky electro basslines to the robotic roller-rink jam vocals, it still rocks the party.
