Chord changes: adaped from the Les McCann tune, Healin' Feeling, that I learned from Jimmy McGriff's version on the record Fly Dude.
Clavinet: Herbie Hancock - Headhunters. The way that clav enters on Chameleon... I first heard that record 17 years ago and still draw inspiration from it.
Lead solo: Eddie Harris. Rhodes through a Maestro W-3 effect pedal. Eddie often recorded sax through a W-2, and my lines here are hinting at Freedom Jazz Dance and other iconic tunes of his. He was also a keyboardist and plays electric piano on some of his albums.
Background lines: Bernie Worell, who could make the funkiest lines with so few notes.
Bass: Stevie Wonder. So much incredibly funky key-bass on albums like Innervisions.
And some less overt homages, but players to whom I owe a great deal of my "bag": Chester Thompson (keyboardist, although the Chester Thompson who drummed for Genesis is pretty tight, too), Jimmy McGriff, and Maceo Parker.

Portland native Ben "Snacks" Turner plays many kinds of keyboards with many kinds of bands. He has toured the US with Dirty Revival and Curtis Salgado. At a rehearsal years ago, he ate way too much pizza - like, an indefensible amount of pizza - and the nickname "Snacks" stuck. Former projects include Supraphonics, Heavy Brothers, Manimalhouse, Dirty Revival, and The Ken Derouchie Band. Ben graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano in 2016.
