A Musical Equivalent to the Late-Night Reddit Rabbit Hole Session

In today's often superficial music landscape, where algorithms seem to know more about our musical preferences than we do ourselves, "Sammelfieber" by bensnburner comes along like an unexpected breath of authenticity - or like a well-placed punch in the face of the current Lofi bubble.

What makes this album special is the origin of many of the sounds used. They are not just samples, but acoustic fingerprints of places and moments that Ben recorded on tours, rehearsals, or in everyday life.

From the impulses of avant-garde pianist Shih-Yang Lee during a joint performance in Taipei, mantra chants on the Pacific coast to unreleased material from the noclip sessions, which took place in a 400sqm large, empty industrial hall, nightly jam sessions in the legendary StudioEinz or sounds of the Free-Jazz Orchestra "F-Orkestra" - this album is like a well-curated mix of beats including privat recordings, voice memos and field recordings - garnished with basslines straight from the heart.

Ben Krahl, the man with more identities than an average NPC in a JRPG, has created something with "Sammelfieber" that feels like finding a treasure chest in an abandoned level. The tracks are a mix of old acquaintances, such as "+886", which served as the basis for the song of the same name from the 2015 album Patternwirtschaft. But also new beats that emerged over the last 2-3 years, but were way too gritty for his Lofi alter egos flamingo zamperoni or Brad Enbata.
