The Dome - Closing set - Friday Night - 12.06.21.  Thanks to all those who danced with me - what a ride! Grateful to be allowed extra time to twist the knobs a bit longer - this one was a load of fun with a lot of amazing humans!

**This is a re-work, in order, post event - from the set history... 

There were a couple of moments in the set I really remembered (FYI - I never remember my sets)  - so I tried to re-create these moments... 

I thought about them loads before this re-recording (who was there, how we were vibe-ing) and then miraculously, I somehow found them, clearly, again, not just in my head, but as I played it back and recorded it... JOY!

I hope the same for those who were there also...

This new year I had the absolute honour to play on Aum's incredible main stage, The White Stag. It's been a bit of a journey to get here, I was meant to play this stage last new year but because of covid and the restriction levels my set clashed with another festival I was booked for so it didn't happen. I was heartbroken at the time, so being able to step onto the stage this year was a very special moment for me. 

There's a few people I need to thank for making this happen. 

Firstly, Mr John Paul Moss. Mossy, your support goes way back, you gave me my first ever solo club set playing after Antix all those years ago, so playing this stage for you at the incredible set time you gave me means the absolute world. Thank you for your love, support and belief in me, and for the incredible women you booked to play alongside me that night. What you, Anna and Steve have created with Aum is completely unrivalled in New Zealand. It's magic beyond words. thank you all for all your mahi to ensure we all have the best new year every year, it doesn't go unnoticed.

Thank you to Lara, Bronte, Ainsley and Yuna for being my before and after support crew, you kept me calm beforehand (and I will freely admit I was nervous to play this one!) and the love you showed me when I finished brought me to tears.

To my darlings Cyril Orson and Cooper Khan, teaming up with you both musically has changed my world over the last few years. I've learned so much, discovered incredible music and your support when I finally made the jump from Serato to USB's in August made it so much easier. This set would not be what it is without you two.

Thank you to Shelley Watson (AKA Miss Mixtape) for the photo, you always have such a great eye!

And finally to all the dancers and revellers, THANK YOU for allowing me to take you on this journey and for staying up for my set on night one. It was a privilege and an honour to play for you all.

And here's what he had to say about his own experience playing at ÉLG '22...

The ÉLG crew is a special bunch that I hold close to my heart. The first year being rescheduled meant I couldn’t come and play due to a clash, I was gutted, to say the least! Being asked to come back and close the main stage on the Friday was the perfect way to make up for it! 

A delayed flight, a VERY slow bus, and a disorientated taxi driver meant I just got there in time to soak in some of the atmosphere before hopping on to play on that beast of a system! 

The next 2 hours were two of the most enjoyable of my career to date (followed closely by the Zen Den on the Saturday!), the vibe on that dance floor was on point, as it was all weekend… The flow was instant and gave me full artistic freedom to go across genres as the set progressed. Thank you to all the amazing dancers.

Really can’t say enough good things about my experience at the festival, too many superlatives, it is definitely one that you just need to go to, to understand!

"While I’ve made many early morning expeditions to Robot Heart, this was my first adventure playing the famous bus. It was a bespoke musical experience and a true honor to play and become part of the family. Dust storms had been blowing amok that night, so many parties had been cancelled; yet so many fabulous people came out to dance and make it an unforgettable party.

My sound explores the spaces between groovy & psychedelic. I always try to bring a deeper experience to the dance floor without taking things too seriously. I want people to experience a heightened connection with the music, but most importantly just laugh and have a good time. I hope that vibe shines through in this recording. Much love."

After last week’s 50th Source to Cycle podcast, from Mountain People, we continue to bring you some of the World’s finest DJs, and their ever eclectic mixes.  As always, the Cycle showcases our guest’s current DJ style, whilst the Source mix let’s them delve deeper into their record collections, for an ‘anything goes’ set.

As so this week we are proud to welcome Ian Pooley, one of house music’s legends, and all round nice guy.  Pooley began his career in the early 90s, recording for labels like Force Inc, Definitive, NRK and V2, as well as labels like Plus 8 (for his Silvershower alias).  Remixes for hundreds of acts like Daft Punk, The Beloved, Green Velvet, Yello, X-Press 2 and many more, plus of course a DJ career that has taken him around the world many times over, Pooley still fires on all cylinders after all these years. Ben Booth is an enigma, veiled in mystery, surrounded by intrigue and sometimes covered in chocolate. As a DJ superstar, his success has been as meteoric as it has been anonymous. He has scaled the heights of fame and notoriety whilst, extraordinarily, attracting not quite as much of the spotlight or the accolades such attributes usually acquire...

Eclectically melding deep rolling house, chunky beats, dirty, funky, shameless, remix-grooves and random resonances so carefully curated that they make you go “Yeah, baby spank me some more!", Ben completely ignores the genre prejudiced, musical style gurus, and as a result, a delicious chaos ensues whenever he goes anywhere near the controls, taking to dance floor management like a killer whale to seal pups... Like the apex predator, Ben's DJ persona continues to maintain his status in the upper echelons of the underground scene.

Guaranteed also is his musical selection - and he is equally at home crafting silky warm-up slots, building an empty room to a gyrating crescendo of sweaty limbs and wailing trippers, as he is at blowing minds whilst headlining the bill. 

Ben is a man who can draw and control a crowd going to the petrol station to get a pack of Doritos. 

He enjoys a solid and loyal following and those who know and love his musical chemistry will attest that his sets (like his cooking) are always tantalising - and he’s always willing to share his spoon, or let you lick the bowl - or Booth...

Ben's musical interests find him spinning deep, chunky, rolling house, bouncy tech and minimal and progressive tunes, but.. he has a softer side too and he loves melodic harmonies, worthwhile breakdowns, funk, soul and reggae. 

He enjoys funny cat videos and giving head, back (crack) and shoulder massages to deserving strangers...
