Vienna-based talent Joyce Muniz is back on familiar territory with her 'Strange Girl' EP landing on renowned imprint Exploited. Here she delivers a collab with Little Boots as well as a solo original, the latter of which has been scooped up for an exclusive Mixmag premiere. Here she showcases why she is regarded as a sleepless workaholic of house grooves, with 'Aint No Stopping' delivering a dancefloor bomb of hypnotic rhythms and energy. 

The 'Strange Girl' EP is set for release February 25.

Long time house stalwart Roland Leesker is next up on Get Physical with a fantastic new single entitled ‘Believe.’

Get Physical co-owner Leesker has been active since the late eighties, soon emerging on the Frankfurt scene and going on to work in record shops in New York, producing with Ricardo Villalobos, spinning at the Wild Pitch Club and turning out vital and hardhitting house tunes of his own. 2017 was the last time he appeared on the label with his stellar ‘Thunderstorm’ and this new offering is another fine statement of his skills.

The excellent ‘Believe’ is a classically informed but forward thinking house track with warm dub chords propping up the groovy house drums. Big spoken word snippets fill the airwaves with tension and the synths build to the sort of rapturous peak that always makes the dance floor explode.

For adventurous DJs looking to tease the crowd, an emotive acapella version is also included.

This is a timeless house record once more from the pioneering Leesker and the ever reliable Get Physical Music and will soon be followed by two huge remixes, watch this space!

Here comes the second teaser EP from Get Physical ahead of a new volume of their fantastic Brazil-focused Cocada compilation due later in spring. The three tracks bring plenty of fresh Latin American vibes to the dance floor with Albuquerque & Kaiq, Leo Janeiro & Nuno Deconto and Anhauser all featuring.

Up first are Albuquerque & Kaiq, Warung regulars and well known house champions in their native Brazil. Their ‘Jardim Elétrico’ is a masterfully colourful and lively cut that will get any party started. Dancing synths and bouncing drums really bring the vibes.

Then the series compiler and a long time driving force in Brazil, Leo Janeiro, links up with hybrid live/DJ artist Nuno Deconto for ‘Chima’. Their Detroit tinged house track has well crafted chord stabs that ooze soul and make for an excellently uplifting groover.

This terrific three tracker is closed out by Anhauser, the brotherly pair from Argentina who have released on the likes of Hot Since 82's Knee Deep In Sound. Their ‘Rebone’ is a smooth rolling deep house track with late night chords and wavy beats sinking you well into their seductive mood.

These are charming house tracks that showcase the best South America has to offer.

New York based label/party Frendzone storms back with its second release featuring a diverse collection of artists and styles, including a deep, acidic and atmospheric house cut from the mysterious rising talent Ames Henry and Paul Kav titled 'Business In Hasenheide'.

Also included on 'Frndzne 02' is an experimental tech-breakbeat composition from seasoned drum 'n' bass producer Fanu as well as a banging hardcore jungle track from label veteran Octo Octa.

'Frndzne 02' is set for release April 16.

Pavel Iudin - Framework EP

Pavel Iudin is back on Poker Flat Wax with a new the killer four-track EP pressed on green and white vinyl.

Inspired by an industrial, technoid vibe reminiscent of Iudin growing up in a city surround by metallurgical industry, the title track 'Framework' is a slinky, crafty burner, built around an irresistible groove. Iudin keeps the extras to a minimum, letting the balance of a few key elements become the track's strength.

'Echelon' works around a tightly woven drum sample before opening up with some beautiful Access Virus synth effects.

'Dummy' is an exercise in restrained deepness - the track has a submerged quality that could work on many dance floors.

Last up is 'Automotive' - another groove driven cut that uses a minimum of elements without ever feeling minimal - sign of a producer fully in control of his craft.

"Automotive', says Iudin "is in contrast with my other records. I used sounds that are not typical for myself and they led me to something new. Perhaps this is a continuation of my previous track Dubrawa. I was also inspired by the idea of the raw and dubby Wax Only series, using simple patterns and sounds."

For the 9th offering from Æ Recordings, we have a various artists release. What all these artists have in common is that they have undoubtedly been leading figures within the local scene for the last 25 years.
A-side features a long lost remix which Thor made for GusGus back in 2002. There has been loud demand for this one to appear on vinyl – so the waiting is now no more. Its a balearic, tasteful and will certainly be a regular in the DJ bags this season. The B-side starts with a minimalistic and dubby anthem from Thor. A solid composition as expected from the label honcho himself. A timeless dub techno remix from Sanasol of the Icelandic electronica wizard Biogen completes this 12“ – a track that first saw release back in 1997.

Æ Recordings, the infamous sublabel of Thule Records, has been a hub for techno talents in Iceland since 1999. The label was, and still is, known for bringing in fresh winds into the scene and this release doesn‘t stray away from the concept at all – though this time we‘re offering a delicious slice from the older times.

The fresh remixes keep on coming from Get Physical, this time with a new take on a single by Stereo.type feat. Felix Raphael that was originally released on the imprint's latest Words Don’t Come Easy compilation. Vital versions come from label associates old and new including Ryan Murgatroyd, Bebetta & Cioz and T.M.A..

Bebetta & Cioz have been cooking up the goods together for a while now on labels like Monaberry. Here they lock you in a trance with their spellbinding keys and synths. Softly spoken vocals add to the alluring effect and make this house music as deep as it is sensitive. The excellent original version is a deep yet bumping house cut with melodic bass and curious synths that bring a playful sense of colour. It exudes real human warmth from Felix Raphael’s vocals and is perfectly steamy.

T.M.A is a German duo that mix organic drums and guitars and powerful basslines. Their invigorating remix is a superbly slow burning affair with rumbling synth loops and expansive pads. Forever trapping you in the elongated groove, it’s a tender one for intimate dance floors and late night sessions. Last of all is Get Physical’s core artist Ryan Murgatroyd, who combines the African rhythms of his Cape Town home with super electronic stylings. And that is the case here as he layers in rich xylophone melodies, rasping synths and loose-limbed rhythms that will warm through any floor.

Once again here Get Physical give a deserving standalone release to a hot single that now comes with a range of on point remixes.

18 months after the well-received debut, Get Physical serve up a second instalment of their Cocada series as curated by Brazilian hero Leo Janeiro. In this second volume, which was mixed by the Brazilian DJ and Producer Marye, artists from Argentina, Colombia, Bolivia, Cuba and Mexico participate alongside Brazilian talents.

The initial idea was to showcase new and fresh productions in the Brazilian music scene, and now Cocada: The Second Season broadens the horizons. Says series A&R Janiero, “We realised that Cocada could spread throughout all Latin America, that is why our idea is to seek out local talents from right across this region. This is the pillar of Cocada: promote music made by Latin American DJs and producers to the rest of the world.”

Marye is a new name that emerged in the Brazilian electronic scene and opens the compilation with the hypnotic’ Zenith,' then 20 year veteran Bruce Leroys's ‘Liberdade’ takes a stroll through deep house with dramatic vocal samples. Label boss Roland Leesker contributes a touch of suspense and tension, remixed by IVA who originates from Bolivia and now lives in Barcelona, Mexican duo Reptare invest in more dramatic and ethereal sounds, and Warung regulars Albuquerque and Kaiq collaborate on a delicious house track.

Mezomo comes from the south of Brazil, and is head of the Sunset Sessions parties and here offers something full of Kwaito/gqom/afrohouse influences. Argentinean Paulo Malde aka Who Else is an old acquaintance of those who enjoy deep house, then comes another contribution from Argentina, the brothers Agustin and Nicolás Festa, who together form Anhauser and serve up the hypnotic and seductive ‘Rebone’

Elsewhere is a veteran of the DJ booths of Brazil, Rodrigo Ferrari, Fran Bortolossi from Caxias do Sul who comes up with a house track that would fit like a glove in sweaty basements of Chicago in the 90’s, and chic and elegant grooves from Caio Stanccione’s. Leo Janeiro and Nuno Deconto, both part of the first compilation, appear together in this second volume with ‘Chima,’ a deep house cut full of personality that turns into a perfect anthem to put your hands
up in the air. Saulo Ferraro—an exponent of the bustling electronic music scene in Rio de Janeiro— then ups the ante with some outstanding tech house. The power of the Cuban groove is brought to bear on ‘Carajillo’, making it impossible to stay still as Havana duo PAUZA, AKA Paula Fernandez and Zahira Seanchez, do their thing. Finally Claudia Assef closes things out with a classy techno leaning affair.

This is a multicultural trip through Latin tinged house music that makes for fantastic listening and is being supported by an extensive tour, details of which can be found below.
