The 10th release of katharsis is the album “Matter Out Of Place” by @merdhlaleh , which will come out on April 15th. It will be the first physical release of the label, manufactured in an edition of 49 cassette tapes. Behind the Merdh Laleh moniker is the Copenhagen-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Valdemar Kragelund, who released his debut album “Water For Your Eyes” in 2019 on the danish label Petrola 80.

This second release of the artist is a collection of tracks and sketches made from vastly different perspectives and in divergent conditions, but which peculiarly made sense when put together in the context of the album. Consequently, the album seems to be a reflection on things that do not fit into a context. Themes of ostracism, the socially disadvantaged, shattered dreams and a lack of hope permeates the sonic atmospheres with deviating glimpses of serene and nostalgic
memories framed in sound.

The artist, who besides his Merdh Laleh moniker functions as one third of the experimental jazz trio Køs and as the keyboardist in the dark theatral rock band Josiah Konder, weaves together arcane synth-melodies with eerie vocals and hallowed saxophones to a veil of unsound laments. With katharsis-founder jjjacob contributing with the artwork and mastering, “Matter Out Of Place” sends the listener on a delirious journey, trying to understand the metaphysics of being the missing piece in a puzzle within a context you are not aware of.

++ TINNITVS - A 5-YEAR ANNIVERSARY COMPILATION ++

In 2015, Club Late Music was created as an open-source music label, with the ambition to explore the production and diffusion of artistic contents by connecting artists worldwide into a network based on collaboration, sharing and mutual aid. It was quickly followed by the creation of the Global URL Nation in 2017 : a still growing community of artists, designers and enthusiasts willing to crystallize this idea into a tangible reality.

Five years later, after more than a dozen projects - from EPs and compilations to audiovisual pieces and installations, as well as many radio shows, live acts and club events - we are still more than convinced that collective action, togetherness and genuine openness are much needed guides to navigate our troubled times.

We are happy to celebrate this double anniversary with TINNITVS, a 12-track compilation made by members and friends of the Global URL Nation. With 24 artists from more than a dozen countries, it acts as a statement of our current mindset by presenting only collaborative tracks made by two or more persons. An embodiment of playful exploration and muti-faceted creation, covering a broad range of sounds and styles, from the lowest roars to the sparkliest ringing vocals.

As a reverse present to our supporters, as well as a way to explore further what open-source could mean in contemporary music production, the stems of each track are made available for anyone to use as they please when downloading the compilation. We hope this initiative will give birth to inspiring reworks and remixes, expanding the scope of the original tracks into new beings in perpetual evolution. We invite any contributions, from GUN members and beyond, to be sent to us in order to be gathered under a common project that will take shape in the coming months with the same mindset.

We are overwhelmingly thankful to anyone who has joined and participated in the adventure, as well as to everyone who has shown support in any way possible - from those who listened to our music to those who played it, from those who shared our content to those who involved us in their activities. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the continuous inspiration.

We still have a lot to learn and to improve, and we hope that this anniversary only marks a foundation to build upon. A basis that will allow us to keep further exploring sonic realms and visual wonders, as well as collective organization and collaborative processes.

Victor Metske is a Rotterdam-based electronic musician, who is normally known for his energetic club-ready style of production and for the label Bound Centre, which he co-founded with Ice Viper, Imhotel & Ezra V. On katharsis, he presents a more introspective and thoughtful side of himself with his EP “In The Midst Of Things”, which seems to stem from this weird year of isolation and quarantine.

The 4 tracks of the EP send us on a contemplative journey through our feelings, spanning from the blissful pads on the beautiful opener “Flour On Her Feet” to the more disturbing and anxious plucked strings on “First Sight”. Metske states the following about the release:

“In the midst of things, in between life changing events and entirely new daily routines there were small moments where I could sit down and reflect. The four tracks of this EP were created in these small pockets of time. During the pregnancy of my girlfriend, after the birth of our son, at the arrival of a global crisis.

Melodic and atmospheric elements previously hidden in my send channels have been braving the foreground of my productions for a while now. But more recently I've been able to use these elements to translate the weight of recent events directly into some of my music. All four tracks represent very personal abstract feelings that I could never put to words.

Within these four tracks, I can hear feelings of joy, love, doubt and melancholy scream back at me. I can hear myself settling into a new world, struggling with relinquishing control and discovering calmth.”

"Ask me what the season is, I couldn't tell you. Today it's warm, tomorrow a pickaxe just to make small talk. Yes there is a before, yes there is an after, but what hurts is all the white noise between points null and void, this warbling tangent. More smudge of chalk than gash of blood. A pinprick of dust between cornea & sclera. I'd rather a katana like the Space Needle, a massive ugly knife. Picture a quorum of fruit flies gagging the oblongata of the world's oldest basement shower drain in Köln, Deutschland & you'll get the picture, of which this mix is reflective:  A glove torn asunder from its diploid, mitosis in the gamer bar between fatalities, blunted eyelashes; IMVU raves; tsunami of calories, bones, alarm bells bleating 4/4 forever for no reason squashed like Kraft singles between the goosedown pillows of our discontent. You can't make a silk purse of a sow's ear. Was auch immer. And also this night I thought I'd kiss your cheek just to spite bare life, this future eye barreling toward me like a robot horse making glucose of the black, black horizon. I am a cactus stuffed like a prize cougar with cotton candy: parched yes, embarrassed vor allem."
