By far the simplest way to present Jason Hersco’s third EP on Apparel Music’s catalogues, is by praising his ever evolving way to produce uncluttered, straightforward music. The Canadian producer, with his four-stack digital record called ‘Images’, is able to carry out again such a difficult task, which is composing extremely sophisticated and detailed tunes, making ‘em look and sound so simple. The outcome is a refreshing and cheerful sonic excursion, suitable for every taste, for all occasions, for the music geeks and the lovers of simplicity. ‘Images’ once again shows Hersco’s growth as a producer and his innate capability to generate excellent tunes at any given record.

Kiu D comes from a background of Drum n Bass, House, Broken Beat and Nujazz. His Dub influences are clearly felt in 'Capture' where a heavy bassline takes centre-stage around a 4/4 rhythm section and spacey keys. The EP title track keeps the momentum going with a deeper, driving rhythm, atmospheric pads, and soulful vocal chops that are drenched in reverb for a wider soundscape. Percussion elements interlace with the beautifully-balanced track for that extra bit of movement. 'Last Dream' focuses on Kiu D's more soulful approach to Deep House through driving drums, a heavy rolling bassline, and keys and percussion elements rooted in Soul."

As bassist for dance-punk outfit The Rapture, Mattie Safer cut his teeth in the music scene alongside a wave of now-legendary early 2000s NYC acts like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, LCD Soundsystem and more (a time period recently immortalized in the documentary film ‘Meet Me In The Bathroom.’) Fast-forward nearly 2 decades and Mattie has found the sweeter side of dance music as the current lead vocalist for slo-mo kings Poolside, and now he presents his solo lovetempo project on Razor-N-Tape.

A chilled-out affair, the lovetempo EP moves between organic laidback disco, modern bossa nova treatments, and Sade-esque grown-n-sexy jazz grooves. Hitting notes of both melancholy and positivity, Mattie’s plaintive vocals wind through all 4 of the original songs, delivering catchy and singable hooks. RNT regular Yuksek does what he does best, and takes the most uplifting tune of the pack into positively joyous hands-in-the-air territory with a stunning remix.

Cyphon Recordings welcome DJ, producer, musician, and D.KO co-owner Flabaire for the fourth outing on the label. At just 29, the Parisian artist - real name Ralph Maruani - already has a fair share of victories under his belt. On his acclaimed D.KO imprint, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, he’s released three albums and several EPs, as well as charting releases for Organic-Music, Deeppa Records and South Street. On top of his solo pursuits, you can find him playing bass with five-piece house band Secret Value Orchestra, and more recently he’s been exploring his formative love of psych-rock with his Aboukir project and readying a second album.

For his next solo EP, he brings his beautifully affecting and nostalgic blend of electro, IDM, and deep house to Cyphon. If there’s one thing Flabaire knows a thing or two about, it’s creating music that’s full of emotion and atmosphere, and that’s exactly what he does on ‘Entre-Deux’. Wasting no time pulling at heartstrings, on opener ‘In Between’ he layers an electro drum beat over lush pads that beckon an iridescent synth line to rise up out of the haze. At the half-way mark a cowbell swings into action and the pads swell and glisten, making way for a squelchy 303 to bubble underneath the surface. ‘No Minding’ moves into softer realms, giving us a moment for contemplation. A serene blend of deep house and electronica, it’s paced by a warm bass bounce and shuffling percussion sprinkled with chopped vocal samples and bright keys.

Flabaire’s bass mastery continues on ‘Click Plok’, as does his deftness at producing delicate, gliding pads, which this time are punctuated by tight bleeps, gentle open hats and a meandering synth solo. The atmosphere is still just as palpable on closing track ‘FBG’. A balmy syncopated groove leads the charge, joined harmoniously by twinkling synth melodies that dance over dusty breakbeats and hushed vocal stutters.
