From the collective brain of Craig Smith & Saleem Andrew McGroarty comes a new 'live' outfit called Sound Signals.

Together with keyboardist Stevie Christie, bass-man Cameron Bradley and percussionist Paulo Riddle they served up a deep, warm and jazzy basement house workout. 

In order to increase the musical value we got something special on this version.  Here Craig teams up with his Scottish soul brother Ricky Reid for a remix under their Soul Renegades moniker with a big-stringed late night house fanfare. It kinda reminds us of those tasteful and melodic deep house productions coming out of Italy in the mid/late 90's...think Don Carlos :)

What do you do when you’ve just released an amazing album and your last EP on Heist was one of the label’s best selling records in recent years? This is the ‘question’ Crackazat had to answer when writing his new EP for Heist.  His solution was to deliver something even more amazing!  When Crackazat released his ‘Alfa’ EP early 2021, we knew it was going to be a great record. It had everything we’ve come to expect and love from him; a great balance between creative musicality and downright beef for the club. Fast forward a year and a half and here we are, super happy to release his new ‘Demucha EP’.

‘Demucha’ starts with the jazzy energy of a double bass, brushed percussion, and vocal chops. You can feel the speed working through every part of the song, which is even more evident when the main key comes in.  A typical Crackazat-esque finger-twirling loop brings the track to its top speed where horn stabs add to the overall excitement. ‘Sarge’ takes a more mellow approach, Crackazat navigates the idea of timelessness with dreamy keys, strings and a dubby bass. A mid track crackly arpeggio and faraway voices add to the contemplative vibe to great effect.  ‘We know’ stays away from Crackazat’s renowned skippy beats and instead, makes way for a driving staccato stomp. Rough key stabs along with the talented multi-instrumentalist’s own faraway vocals make for a mesmerizing cut that takes you on a sonic journey that works as well on the dancefloor as in any other space.

Toy Tonics discovered Kosmo Kint 3 years ago when looking for a singer to work with. Kosmo is a Soul vocalist raised in New York. He lives in Berlin since a few years, after studying Opera singing in Vienna, and was looking for the right crew to hook up in Berlin. Toy Tonics was perfect. Now, After 4 collaborations on songs of different Toy Tonics artists (Kapote, Rhode & Brown, Mangabey, Sam Ruffilo) Kosmo is ready for an solo album. This is the first single from the forthcoming full length long player, Take Care My Friend from German producer Flashbaxx released on vinyl and digital on November 4th 2022. The remix is by Dutch producer Moods aka Nick Lubbersen.

Ever since he remixed Abimaro & The Free’s ‘Mark’ back in 2014, NuNorthern Soul boss Phil Cooper has kept in touch with Daniel Stenger, the producer and self-taught multi-instrumentalist behind the Flashbaxx project. Cooper was always convinced that Sanger would be capable of crafting a very special release for the label but was willing to give him time to come up with something special.

With Take Care My Friend, a mini-album inspired by the German producer’s deeply rooted love of jazz-funk, Stenger has repaid the faith shown in him. He’s delivered a collection of quality cuts marked out by audible warmth, effortless musicality and memorable, sun-soaked songs.

Stenger indulges in a bit of New York daydreaming on ‘Brooklyn Love Boat’, a wonderfully musically detailed chunk of 1970s style jazz-funk heat that offers knowing nods to Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock and the jazz-fusion stylings of Azymuth.
