Finally it’s here! After what has felt like an eternity of delays, I've just taken delivery of the debut EP on my new label Shakedown Avenue! 

The title track 'Make That Move' as some will know has been a long time coming. Originally due to be released on Mr Tophat & Art Alfie's Karlovak label a number of years ago. They unfortunately ended the label before the release could happen, so I held on to the track in the years since, always knowing I'd create my own label down the line. 

Not only is it an immensely proud moment for me to finally launch the label, it's a huge honour to be able to feature a remix of 'Make That Move' from my biggest musical inspiration Phil Weeks! 

The record also includes the tracks 'Fell In Love While Dancing' and 'Special' on the flip to complete the package, which comes in a fully printed outer, with an amazing hand drawn design depicting the funky world of Shakedown Avenue.

The crushing news of Kenny Gino’s sudden passing in July of this year hit very hard. Having only just come out of hiatus to release new Solid Gold Playaz material for us here on Freerange, the US underground house heroes are set to introduce their uncompromising deep, jacking sound to a whole new audience. And with Kenny’s partner Mike T’s blessing for the previously scheduled follow up EP to go ahead, we are proud to present you with the Solid Gold Playaz ‘Next To You EP’. For the hardcore fans out there, this music will blow you away, and feels to me at least, like the ultimate SGP release, even without the added weight and poignancy the tracks now carry.

Opening up we have ‘Next To Me’ which is as deep as it gets with beautiful floating synths drifting on top of an unrelenting rolling groove whilst Kenny’s vocal adds a powerful and emotive edge.  ‘My Soul Is Quiet’ follows with another incredible piece of music, drawing you in with its hypnotic mood and simple yet ridiculously compelling bass and synth hook. Again, the drums are unapologetically minimal - not a fill or breakdown in sight - but that is what locks you in and creates something entrancing which makes you feel like it could go on for eternity!  Flip over for ‘Who’s Playin’ For Ya’, a more old school Chicago-inspired slice of raw, underground house which cuts up Rhodes, strings and snippets of vocal samples around a glitchy FM synth sequence. The funk is real on this one.  Closing out this very special record we have ‘Do You Think’, going deeper still with expansive pads, soprano sax sample and chiming percussion all underpinned by a massive, dub bassline. Rest in peace Kenny Gino. You left a powerful legacy of amazing music!

A sublime disco trip with weaving arpeggios and a heads-down neon chug, it’s a fast-lane freak out to 2am with no stops or returns. 
‘Queen Jam’ brings us home. Back to the jack but stripped down to the bare bones with just a snippet of vox and a generous stack of percussion, there’s a great sense of momentum as the groove develops with just a smidgeon of cosmic behaviour.

Spreading nothing but positive vibes… Robsoul sign out of 2022 and commence 2023 with the best possible intention: ‘These Happy Feelings’, an EP that truly embodies its title in every possible way. 
It comes courtesy of a true New Jersey pioneer Richard Les Crees, a talent who came through on that phenomenal 80s wave as a DJ and translated that unique energy into productions under the name of Filthy Rich throughout the 90s on labels such as Distance. 
These productions had a direct influence on the Robsoul boss Phil Weeks himself so this release is a poignant moment as Richard completes the circle and makes his label debut. Digging deep into the most soulful and uplifting corners of his palette, it’s a resounding EP that belies the frosty winter temperatures. From the big vocal harmonies of the title track to the much heavier, jacking funk of the finale jam ‘What We ‘Bout To Do’, this covers the full range and reminds us that the best pioneers will always look to bring a different perspective and technique. Stunning from edge to edge. Stay happy.

Six years after delivering his debut album - a digital-only affair called TruSkool - Demuir has finally got round to recording a follow-up. The Toronto native's brand of house is chunky, groovy, deep and funky, taking cues not only from previous collaborators such as DJ Sneak, but also those of his contemporaries that make great use of dusty samples and killer drum programming. As a result, Visions manages to work both as a collection of club-focused cuts and an album you can listen to repeatedly from start to finish. Our picks of a pleasingly strong bunch include the fluid, disco-tinged, Hipnotic-sampling brilliance of 'Mind, Body & Soul Call Me', TUSH hook-up 'Skylar' (a superb slab of gospel-tinged soulful house) and the delicious Fred P collaboration 'Dream (Part II)'.
