Glaswegian House don Tiptoes offers up some absolute belters for his Record Business EP which chalks up his 3rd appearance on the SlothBoogie label. The SB crew have been gagging to release these tracks ever since he dropped early demos at one of their infamous 24 hour parties at Sisyphos, Berlin that caused a mad rush to the booth and demands for track IDs!

The title track “Record Business” is a peak time filtered House bomb that has been causing mayhem in sets over the past year… an absolute ear worm! “Call Me” is another juicy slab of HOUSE that features looped up Motown licks, Jackin’ brass stabs and someone who is not very happy that Tiptoes hasn’t been returning her calls! Finishing off the A side is “Food”; the very essence of a ‘Deep House Roller’. Hypnotic tonal loops cycle over tribal drums which are guaranteed to lock any dance floor into a trance.

On the flip you’ll find Tiptoes dimming the lights and getting smokey as he explores his deeper side. “Brothers & Sisters” supplies deep and hazy head nodding beats with clever MPC chops, blissed out keys and spoken word arrangements. “It’s Only Love” sees Tiptoes bringing his motor city influences to the fore with looped up soul snippets, breathy KDJ inspired vocals, thumping lo-slung beats and chopped up string sections worthy of any car wash. In the last few years, we’ve seen French DJ and producer Laroye delivering the goods time after time on respected labels such as Atjazz Recordings, Compost, Makin Moves and Foliage. His most recent LP just released on Local Talk has been getting big support picking up plays on Radio 1, 6Music, Worldwide FM as well as spins from Natasha Diggs, Gilles Peterson, Craig Charles, Louie Vega, and Honey Dijon. Freerange is proud to welcome him back for the follow up to 2020’s release Be The Change, presenting you with a killer 4 track EP entitled ‘First Sight’.
 
Leading the charge, Laroye is joined by influential Detroit artist, DJ, producer, and vocalist Javonntte who has written and recorded a brilliant vocal for the title track. Laroye’s fat beats, jazzy chords and soulful touch make the perfect production for Javonntte’s vocals. Up next, we have the ‘Percussive Dub’ mix of ‘Uku Dance’ in which Laroye strips things back to the bare bones making for a serious percussion tool work out to spice up your sets. On ‘Uku Dance’ a bass-heavy groove is punctuated with vocal chops and deep Rhodes part which adds a moody, late-night touch. Just the kind of soulful, dubby, afro track that will get the house dancers throwing down like their lives depended on it! Closing out the release you’ll find an instrumental version of ‘First Sight’.

Phuture Shock Musik keeps it moving with No. 5 in their limited dubplate series, which sees deep house titan Trinidadian Deep return to the Bristol imprint with a 2-track juggernaut of percussion-heavy riddims and mystical frequencies; entitled ‘Jah Fe Movements’ b/w ‘Casa Profunda’.

Picking up where he last left off on PSM; with 2021’s ‘Dub Rockas’ EP, and following a recent remix for label mate Rosie From The Block, the NYC-based producer delivers a sure-fire pair of secret weapons, that once again captures his inimitable brand of deeply spiritual house music, with a typically rich medley of African, Caribbean and Latin influences oozing throughout.

Fronting the A-Side is the meditative vibes of ‘Jah Fe Movements’ a tech-infused heater for the late-nighters, where driving 4/4 kicks and frenzied percussion charge forth in unison with an entrancing keyboard riff, largely engulfed by a smoky haze of livity chants and bubbling dubtronic tones immersed in reverb and delay. On the flip is the uplifting, Afro-Latin-flavoured rhythms of ‘Casa Profunda’, which by contrast is a more sky-facing affair but no less aimed at the dancefloor as the lead cut, awash with breezy, euphoric pads and jazzy sax licks, that meander between sultry Latina vocals hovering over percussion-fuelled beats and a rolling bass groove with a tropical bounce.

It's Lay Far that kicks off with 'Never Ever Edit' which is all horn-led excitement and upbeat disco claps and kicks before Admin's 'Moon Trippin' takes a more slow and soulful approach. When it comes to edits few are more essential than Chicago's Rahaan who kicks off the B-side with 'Gonna Get Ya', a leggy funk number infused with cosmic synth rays and warm piano chords. Delfonic shuts down with the loose percussive jumbles and jazzy vibes of 'Let's Dance The Spank'. A fine start to the series with volume two already in the works.
