I heard this Ravel piece about 15 years ago for the first time in a concert, and was an immediate fan of it, one of my overall most favorite piano pieces (the whole set).  And it is one of the most difficult ones to play. Fabulous job here, Bernard, it was a pure delight to listen!

Thanks, I am more satisfied with this recording than any other I have done, I suppose because of the long time I've spent with it, and that I think I let the the melody stay just below the surface of the water, as Ravel suggested. It is an awesome piece of course!

Maurice Ravel: Ondine

I am a pianist from the United Kingdom. I studied Piano at Chethams School of Music with the late Charles Hopkins (a pupil of Gyorges Cziffra, John Ogdon and Alexis Weissenberg).


While at Dartington College of Arts I continued performing solo piano and contemporary chamber music. During postgraduate study in Manchester I gave public recitals including one of the earliest performances of Maxwell Davies' piano sonata.
An extensive twenty year career in music and creative arts education followed, alongside incredibly exciting meetings with John Cage, Iannis Xenakis, Toru Takemitsu and Karlheinz Stockhausen, whose Klavierstück XII I studied with Ellen Corver at the composer's first course in Kürten 1998. In 2010 I began widely expanding my repertoire of romantic and impressionist music.
I have also studied Japanese language both at London University and in Japan and I also play the Koto a little.
