Helen C. Crane, who was a student of Philip Scharwenka at the Conservatory in Berlin, composed this symphony in 1909; it was subsequently performed in Europe and was featured in an all HCC concert at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, in February, 1928, less than two years before her death.

The composer of 2 symphonies, numerous symphonic suites and tone-poems; works for solo violin, solo cello, trios, quartets, Psalm 42 for chorus and orchestra, a multitude of works for piano (updated just prior to publication)
