The so-called Indie Dance/Dark Disco scene has been gathering an interesting concoction of DJs and producers from many other music genres under its wings. From young wannabes to established artists, from Boogie lovers to Tech(no) heads, the list of names who decided to explore the “new” genres, either using their long-held stage names or creating new monikers, has been steadily growing, bringing new influences and sonorities to enrich even more the good quality underground electronic music world.

Amid these keen enthusiasts is none other than Berny, the curator of the renowned mixtape series In Dark We Trust. Formerly an accomplished Deep & Tech House virtuoso, Berny has been exploring his Indie/Nu Disco influences for quite some time. This may help to explain his decision to channel – if not entirely, but meaningfully – his most recent efforts into the Post-Punk-meets-Kraut-Rock-meets-Cold-Wave-meets-Italo-Disco soundscape of the rising scene.

His “Give It To Me”, on mighty Nein Records, is his first pure dark blood EP. Snippets of what was about to come appeared previously on compilations released by Boite Music, Duro, and Ninefont in which Berny surfaced collaborating with “Indie” veterans. Now, with three well-crafted originals and one sturdy remix by the label boss himself, Tronik Youth (SXDNS050), his forthcoming endeavour definitely screams to the world that the Pandora’s Box is open, and all his shadowy and gloomy influences escaped voraciously.

Premiered here, “Body Tremble”, the opening theme of the EP, delivers a frenzied and pulsating atmosphere from its very beginning. The sexy vocals, the vibrant bassline, and the guitar-like riffs, combined, literally trigger tremors (good ones, though) when loud listened to and danced to.

A pivotal player to the UY fold, Vienna-based T Raum punches the clock this winter with his anticipated fifth EP for the label. Scanning out the frontier between hi-impact techno wares and melodic house upswings, via fitting patches of industrial-laced grittiness and further afield electronic divagations, the Austrian producer dishes out compelling new evidence of his floor-destroying flair and knack for crafting durably addictive joints.

Spanning all ends of the spectrum, from paranormal lo-end activity to choppy oscillator rogue waves at the surface, “Chorder” taps in a heavily delayed seam of steel-jacketed dub techno with its pack-hunting herd of reverb-soaked chords and arpeggiated bass moving at full throttle. The low-slung, feverish swing of “Cold Sweat” opts for a stealthier approach as it closes in on the raver’s headspace with fatality-triggering absoluteness. Carved out of the suavest material, it’s an unrelenting tsunami of hard-flanged piano stabs, chest-rattling hats and mangled, mermaid-like vox samples that unfurls with unstoppable momentum.

Driven by a laid-back metronomic swing knocked askew and processed vox reeling out with brooding presence, title-track “Who Am I” is a straight-out infectious shuffler, primed for sweaty get-down in the locker and down the alcove’s most intimate recesses. A sexy-to-the-fullest joint with its funk-dripping percs, oddly moody chimes and thoroughly hedonistic groove ready to set ablaze all dance-floors on its path. A more restrained number at first, “Talking” progressively soars to higher spheres of consciousness as its lushly brushed pad tapestries and vocodized verses elevate from their squelchy gangue towards weightless, dreamy solace.

Music To Die For returns to launch an incredibly exciting new artist to the scene… GIVE LOVE is fronted by former illusionist and London-born DJ and producer Simon K. who spent the last five years producing dancefloor-filling remixes and bootlegs, honing his sound and racking up hundreds of thousands of plays.  He’s also gained invaluable experience as a DJ and dedicated music enthusiast as part of the team at Resident Advisor, playing warehouse raves in Tottenham, basements in Berlin, celebrated cult-queer London party Adonis and the legendary Grand Trianon theatre in Paris. He was also invited to a special guest DJ mix on Joshua James (XOYO / Sink The Pink) show for legendary London radio station Rinse FM last year. Bringing a bold, euphoric and irresistible sound, he plans to inject fresh energy into the scene. 

Boys / Girls is his first official single and was inspired by a conversation overheard at Adonis (a gay night with cult status) in London and was created with the support of Maxine Heron, a Trans influencer in the space. Boys / Girls closes off the EP with a bang, delivering stomping electro synths and techno infused beats that is a sure-fire Queer future anthem for harder edged nights and destined to soundtrack many inclusive dancefloors around the world.

GIVE LOVE is already exciting influential tastemakers, DJs and crowds from Erol Alkan, Duke Dumont, Richard Norris, Musumeci and Ewan Pearson to Manni D, DMX Krew, Zaltsman and Joshua James from a handful of demos sent out.  This is the first track lifted from his forthcoming EP release (13th May); a bold, euphoric and irresistible array of electronic battle weapons spread across four tracks with an all-star cast assisting with production / mix duties including Ewan Pearson, DMX Krew, Manni D and Steve Dub (Chemical Brothers Engineer).
