Piano Works is the second installment of Lucy Claire’s ‘Works’ series. It is an eclectic take on what piano music can be. Featuring cellist Ren Ford (Keaton Henson’s Romantic Works) and violinist Marie Schreer (The Royal Northern Sinfonia) and surrounded in atmospheric binaural soundscapes, the piano is far from lonely. The work features a collection of pianos from grands and uprights, to electric keyboards, toy and thumb pianos. It is grounded in the real world but hints strongly at the magical and supernatural, it absorbs, transports, then delivers you back to reality with new perspective.

A wonderfully immersive suite of five stunning new tracks, ‘Shifts’ expands upon Swedish-Iranian pianist / composer Shida Shahabi’s debut album and confirms her as a genuine new force in contemporary piano music.

Without radically departing from the ‘Homes’ blueprint, this time around her pallette is expanded, with the opening three tracks seeing the prominent addition of cello, intertwining with piano to provide a powerfully emotive sweep and drone. These parts were provided by Linnea Olsson, who Shida calls "an old musician friend of mine and without a doubt the best cellist I know in Sweden.”

Recorded by Shida and Elias Krantz, the record was mixed by Hampus Norén and mastered at Calyx by Francesco Donadello (Jóhann Jóhannsson, Modeselektor & Thom Yorke, A winged Victory for the Sullen, Dustin O'Halloran, Lubomyr Melnyk, Hauchka, etc).

Oshana at KMA60 Meets Be Avant Garde

Berlin-based and American born artist, Oshana, is one of those artists to watch closely this coming 2020, as she has gained recognition in the house movement in recent years through her unique mixing and production style, having released on recognized imprints like AmPartisan, Brouqade, and BodyParts among other notable labels. Oshana is a resident for Partisan at the infamous Club Der Visionaere in Berlin, and also keeps an active touring schedule. Robert Johnson in Frankfurt, Fuse Club in Belgium, Concrete and Rex Club in Paris, Output in NYC (now closed), and festivals like ADE in Amsterdam, Sonar in Barcelona, and Epizode in Vietnam include some of her remarkable performances around the globe.

The postcoronial apocalypse is not the exception but the rule; it does not reveal anything. Its flashlights cannot illuminate the darkness of a present whose future is already past before it was born. For the future to which this present is indebted is not a real future. The future of current capitalism is already consumed, devalorized, darkened by a future past that will never arrive in the present. The future of this present is an illusion beyond illusion. “I can make light of myself and of others in that darkness: all the real is valueless, every value unreal! Whence that facility and that fatality of equivocations, where I don’t know if I am lying or if I am mad. Night’s necessity springs from that unhappy situation. The night could only proceed by way of a detour. The questioning of all things resulted from the exasperation of a desire, which could not come to bear on the void! The object of my desire was illusion first of all and could be the void of disillusion only in the second instance.” (G. B.) In this void of disillusion our night will fall.
