Born in the dark streets of Cairo, grown to the unforgettable forests of Santa Esmeralda, spending its teen years in Bombay and Tangier markets, mature into the deep spacey Jungle of Ghana we proudly present you a new label from the land of the pyramids: SHANGO RECORDS invites you to an unheard world music psychedelic trip: like through a colorful kaleidoscope we will melt down Indian and Pakistani Vibes, Arab-Tek and Oriental groovy vibes, Afro-Beat rhythms n' pieces, Cumbia Tropicana flavors and cosmic Ghetto-Latin vibes into forbidden sounds of frenzied electronic dancefloor rituals. Outside traditional paths these driving grooves and polyphonic structures take the adventure seeking dancer to Dionysian highs and places never been before.

Aficion means passion. An aficionado is one who is passionate about the true meaning of life. All the good aficionados stayed at Daksina's hotel; that is, those with aficion stayed there. The commercial aficionados stayed once, perhaps, and then did not come back. The good ones came each year. In Daksina's room were their photographs. The photographs were dedicated to the God of passion. The photographs of aficionados Daksina had really believed in were framed. Photographs of people who had been without aficion Daksina kept in a drawer of his desk. They often had the most flattering inscriptions. But they did not mean anything. One day Daksina took them all out and dropped them in the waste-basket. He did not want them around. We often talked about passion and aficionados. I had stopped at the Daksina for several years. We never talked for very long at a time. It was simply the pleasure of discovering what we each felt. Men would come in from distant towns and before they left town stop and talk for a few minutes with Daksina about passion. These men were aficionados. Those who were aficionados could always get rooms even when the hotel was full. Jack Essek is always getting a room at Daksina. This is his fourth offering for Shango Records. These four tracks can tell you stories and prayers about passion and how to get it as simply as possible.

"The sun of a mediterranean April began to warm my sad and disheartened soul from a period psychologically long and heavy to endure. A long period that has severely tested the peoples of an entire planet. I knew that to get out of it I would have to feed my spirit with music. But I was looking for a different kind of music, far from everything I had created so far. The desire to create something syncretic, transversal, highly energetic and spiritual, rich, ancestral and melodic, grew in me. I took a cue from this global situation to think about our destiny, about our sense of belonging to this place and this time. So I looked for a sound that was stripped of any categorization. A sound capable to elude any scheme by borrowing instruments, sounds, melodies from all over the world and blending them together. Whether it was a japanese taiko, a blues or latin melody played on the guitar, a duduk (and, why not, a panflute) or the voice of an opera singer no longer mattered. These elements so distant and different from each other had to dialogue together. I asked my best friend, Ueps, to accompany me with his guitar: I needed his company to face this sonic journey. Urban Cosmonaut Radio is delighted to present Itzamna, the first album by Da Iguana. This inestimable jewel box results from one year of inspired work that the artist undertook during and following his trip to Central America and the Caribbean in company of his muse, also featured in the album. In those remote and paradisiac corners of the planet, the adventurous traveller couldn’t help from being enchanted by the untouched nature he discovered. This, together with the people he met, the adventures he experienced and the characteristic rhythms of those regions left an indelible mark on the artist and represented great source of inspiration for the tracks presented in this album. Nevertheless, the sound resulting by these intense feelings doesn’t bring only the favours of Central America. The attentive listeners will recognize also African and Oriental influences in the tracks. These derive by the musical heritage of the artist and his wide range of experimentations, both in terms of sounds and tempos. Da Iguana started his journey into music at very young age as a singer. Later he found in electronic music his way to express himself with a multifaced production including funk, triphop, house and techno tracks moved by the keen desire for evolution and renovation of sounds. In recent times world music entered his repertoire and brought to the sound we can now enjoy in this album. Besides the inspiration grown along his travels, further motivation to complete these tracks came from the recalls of a dear friend and supporter of Da Iguana that is now listening from above the clouds. A special person to whom the artist 
wanted to dedicate this amazing production.

Da Iguana is both urban and organic. Instrumentalist ever since he was a kid, Da Iguana has explored many styles until Hip Hop and its instrumentals invaded his life for good and gave him that passion for loops and samples. 
Da Iguana fell for electronic music 4 years ago, revisiting the way he composed and mixed, adding a dosis of his other passion: travelling. From 60 to 140 bpm, from jungle to desert, from ethnic grooves to electronic loops... 

This EP moves between lightness and darkness, gathering Da Iguana’s sonic memories from the jungle & its wildlife (Corcovado), Cuban vibes, Caribbean tropical storms and his encounter with the Surinamese community in Amsterdam…

For Amazonian natives, the jaguar is everything: The power, the energy of nature, the god of fertilization, and the ruler of the two worlds; Night & Day.
