Since bursting onto the scene three years ago Maroki has shaped out an emotionally-charged sound which comfortably wraps around any number of club styles. Even by his swooning, introspective standards, his new release on Ano Ano takes this idea further with guest vocalist Maeve rounding out some of his most poignant productions to date.

'Through The Tooth' follows a logical path from his previous appearance on Ano Ano - the 2023 EP Plastic Brain, thanks to Maroki’s innate instinct for the low-end sound craft of UK soundsystem music and the harmonic sensibility he applies to every aspect of his sound. If these six new tracks feel more inwardly focused than, say, his drop on Lobster Theremin, it’s because they were made through the surreal isolation of lockdown.

A special mention goes to the artwork for Through The Tooth, which comes from James Lacey at Pointless Illustration. A longtime friend of Maroki’s, Lacey renders the sound of the EP in dusky tones and geometric formations that call back to the bold vision of the Italian futurists — a fitting mood for the balance of retro and modernist touches contained in the music

On ‘Still Burning,’ Maroki spreads his wings as a producer by bringing fast-rising singer Maeve into the mix for an introspective club cut holding crossover potential closer to its chest. The plaintive synth lines and brooding bass provide a powerful backdrop to Maeve’s eyes-down vocal on the verses, but Maroki holds back some crafty voice edits for those peaks when the crooked beat kicks in.

Melómana opens the year with a compilation that brings together producers who have marked and defined the musical orientation of the label. Its reference 039 is not only a testimony of long-term work, it is also the announcement of what is to come this year 2024.
The compilation brings together songs by artists such as Panka Panka, Azaria, Yahaira, JGR, Jackwasfaster, Ludviq, Nick Hanzo, Macaulay, Mijo, Pastor in Vegas, Rubinskee, Ademarr, Joseeph. Established talents on the scene, as well as emerging projects, offering an approach as designed for the track as it is for home listening. Altogether, we find fused rhythms and rich soundscapes that lead us to an exploration as fluid as it is captivating. The album offers us a dynamic contrast that shows the versatility of a timeless project, created from talent, meticulousness and sonic coherence.The level of production of these guys is intense but, on the other hand, the care of the sounds they release is at the level of those who do things because they want and with the time they really need. The tracks have strength and jump over the prevailing conventions, knowing how to avoid the most recurrent rawness and darkness, seeking dance but without predictable tricks and without exceeding an understandable level of experimentation suitable for the dance floor.
We could say that each producer summarizes their intentions in this compilation, seeking novelty without losing nostalgia, that they play with the genre but without falling into predictable tricks, nor into the arrogance of those who get wrapped up in a genre or mannerism to demonstrate that They have personality. And this is just the beginning, because this year Melómana is going to bring us many surprises.

microCastle’s first offering of 2024 welcomes Adrian Roman back to the label for his second artist showcase. Hailing from Spain, Adrian Roman first rose to prominence in 2021 with a string of superlative releases which redefined his sound, resulting in an aesthetic that was both cutting edge and effortlessly cool. Fully formed within the creative confines of his Castello studio, Adrian’s first microCastle project, 2022’s‘ Disturbing the Perception’ succeeded in showcasing his inventive approach to composition, while remaining club-effective, and in turn earning play from Aera, Fideles and Jimi Jules, amongst others. Moving forward the next eighteen months have proved to be impactful for the young Spaniard, recording standout projects for AZZUR and Sum Over Histories, releases which continued to build on his creative acumen, while remaining in the playlists of underground tastemakers Ame and Dixon. With 2024 beginning with Adrian’s latest Sum Over Histories vehicle ‘Oratorical Ability’, the Spaniard now makes a welcome return to microCastle with a six-track showcase entitled ‘This Is What I Was For A Moment’.

From the opening monochromes of ‘Le Sabbat’ Adrian’s craftsmanship reveals itself across this slow-burning piece, one where grating growls, granular flares and panoramic arps ultimately set the pace for the groove-centric ‘Customized Reality’. It’s here where Adrian puts a greater focus on the dancefloor, marrying hopeful vocal phrasing and silky chord stabs for a rejuvenating experience, while a drum-driven drop ultimately charts the course for a finale of deconstructed sonics and post-rave bliss. The haywire electricity of ‘Faces of Belmez’ finds the Spaniard once again flexing his creative muscles, as corrugated bleeps and cataclysmic rhythms provide a vast sense of space, creating the ultimate backdrop for distorted synths to propel choppy rhythms into dark underground passages, and perhaps onto some of the world’s most adventurous dancefloors.

The collection’s midway point is marked by the hypno-architecture of ‘Mind Design’. Trickling reverberations and long sighs of tonal tension wade through its pulsating framework, with frayed effects and thumping rhythms submerged beneath a buzzing panoramic glow. Played by Ame and sitting as one of the project's most enigmatic tracks is ‘TAGDI’ (They Are Gonna Do It). Tinted with contemplative synths and guttural vocals, Adrian’s unique emotionality peaks here, as he crafts a low-slung, slow-building dystopian romance, all while weaving in cerebral manipulations for an unforgettable ride. The mist breaks instantly on the collection’s final piece, as your thrusted into the muscular grooves of ‘Fear Track’. Horrifying vocal stabs strike, leaving the gauzy purple skies of ‘TAGDI’ behind for a more robust romp, one where anabolic basslines, retro-arps and off kilter percussion bring the release to a feverish peak. A fitting conclusion to a diverse collection of music, one where Adrian creates a journey that speaks to the complexities of life against an immersive and challenging backdrop.

First stone of the EP is Tilt, a crossover musical trip in which AFFKT unleashes his primal influence as a Drum & Bass artist. The track vibrates with a refined fusion of simplicity and dynamism, delivering listeners a captivating experience beyond indifference.

The EP's title nods to the delicate equilibrium of contrasting elements, with the remix serving as a pivotal point of balance within this symmetry and dynamic equation. Phunkadelica's stellar remix injects new nuances and flavors into the narrative, seamlessly tying the EP's components together.

"Magnitude Recordings was started by Francesco Pico in 2005. The label quickly the gained international recognition in the tech house- and progressive house scenes, working with artists such as Ferreck Dawn, Malbetrieb, Alessandro Diga, Harold Heath, Camiel Daamen, Andreas Bergmann and Eelke Kleijn (as part of the Backroom Boyz, a joined effort between Francesco and Eelke) to name a few.

With Francesco Pico moving on to be a household name in the progressive house scene, working for labels such as Audio Therapy (Dave Seaman's imprint) and Global Underground, and releasing full-length artist albums on Manual Music and Outside The Box Music, he struggled to find the time to run Magnitude Recordings and so the label ended in 2011.

But now, after a 7-year hiatus, Magnitude Recordings is making its comeback into the scene as an official Manual Music sister label. And what better way to re-start the label than with a release by the label founder himself!

The industry veteran has truly outdone himself here with two pieces what just might be amongst his strongest productions to date. That trademark 'Pico sound' really shines thru here on both the title track 'Taming Da Echoes'- as well as on 'Bugs Jump Out Of The Water'. A vibe hard to define in words, somehow cleverly combining the best elements of progressive- and tech house creating a sound which would directly be recognized as being a Francesco Pico production.

'Taming Da Echoes EP' is just a glimpse of what's to come on Magnitude Recordings this year and we can't wait to show you some more music soon!"
