This b2b was meant to be, yet very nearly wasn’t. Sanjeet, who provided two unforgettable Best in Town performances in summer 2021, was again scheduled for peak time at our lake rave this summer. D-Grade was in Toronto for the weekend but was busy with a different gig the same night as our party. When the two ran into each other a few days before this event, they recognized each other from Sustain-Release a few years prior and lamented the scheduling overlap. Too bad. 

Then the moon had its say: Sanjeet dreamt of their b2b, D-Grade’s gig fell through, and after about an hour of prep, the two made their way to the far-out location and told us about a slight mod to the lineup. As soon as they hit the decks it was clear we were in for something special. A cohesive propulsion shone through the speakers, carrying us from the cavernous night to the first tinge of day.

Best In Town started as a joke name for an informal DJ school among friends. In the lead-up to new year’s eve 2019, Viv learned the basics and enjoyed a frenzied DJ debut in full-on house party fashion. Her talent was obvious. That night she brought the same rolling groove from her dancefloor prowess to the selector’s POV and hasn’t looked back. Her sets are consistent stand-outs from Best In Town parties – melodic, emotive, and yes, transcendent. Her output from Friday night at Best Out Of Town Year 2 was no exception, and set the tone perfectly for the Montrealers who followed, zi! and anabasine.

frivolousscan has been a consistent part of the BIT family since playing a set with Brendan Arnott at our second lake rave in 2021. But at our first DJ campout last September, a corrupted drive precluded his contribution to the open decks. It was tragic, so this year we were determined to make things right. Khary more than made up for that built-up anticipation with this high-energy set on the Saturday night of Best Out Of Town Year 2. As the BPMs climbed higher, the skies opened up and the dancefloor filled with dancers escaping the rain. In that moment our community coalesced and thrived to frivolousscan's bouncing beat. It was a beautiful sight.

Raf Reza, what can you say? Stalwart of Toronto dancefloors for years, former record slinger with the fabled June on College, purveyor of dry wine and sly banter at the original hifi haunt. He brought the brain fog to Perth with his UFO shoutouts, ambient DnB, and the finest fast chillers to lead us into what was to be a long Saturday night. Big up challenging mixes.

For his first peak slot in some time, halpo (real name Geoffrey) started off his Saturday night set with some savoury numbers from Mr. G and G-Man before journeying into more minimal territory. After letting the subs rumble out into the woods, the rain subsided, a jazz tune turned into trance, and the crowd embraced an RnB nightcap.

Hope you like drums and synths! Anabasine’s closing set on the first night of Year 2 layered double-time kicks, the dub love parade, and sunrise jungle. A proponent of the regional meet-up, this esteemed Montreal connector managed to catch his best friend’s wedding before coming back to take in Nick Pittman, Liv K, Destiny, and the mobile sauna from Public Sweat on our extended Sunday dance event.

Closing out a beautifully unpredictable Sunday in the country, Destiny filled her last set as Choozey with years worth of electric eclecticism.
