Speeding things up with "Like Thunder", the funky vibes continue with an even darker twist. Booming kicks and murky melodies, like a thunder storm working it's way out of the subs and out into the rest of the club. Building energy and releasing tension, just how we like it. 
Dedicated to the low winter sun of the north, it also serves as a reminder that darkness is part of our lives. As creators, this has been an opportunity to discuss our own responsibilities and how we can give back to those who have inspired our sound and culture.

The room was deafly silent; so quiet she could hear her heart pulsing and the blood coursing through her veins. Hours had passed since she first arrived, there had been no sonic or visual stimuli to keep her mind busy; she'd taken to fixing her gaze on a spot on the wall in the hope that it might force something indescribable to happen. The wait felt endless, like an infinite stretch of time with no end in sight, how long could this torture go on for?

Manchester's Left, Right & Centre return for their first release of 2022 and the third artist-led release on the label. At the helm this time it's Bristol-based producer and Rinse France resident Pluralist who has previously put out rhythmic outings for Panel Audio, Manuka Records and Control Freak Recordings. For this three track excursion, titled B Squared, Pluralist treats us to another batch of syncopated drum patterns, rumbling subs and pacy techno mutations that are ready to heat up any dance floor.

I met Dan at Sustain-Release in 2018 and have been nipping at his heels ever since. His work with Brooklyn-based rave outfit Sweat Equity provided a blueprint for us early on and he was one of the first remixes we commissioned for Sorry Records. His music has moved us throughout the years too from countless solo releases to his work alongside Austin Peru of Vision Fortune on their collaborative experimental ambient leaning project Dekalb Works. Dan's a constant joy and thankfully consistent presence in both our lives and on the NYC dancefloor. He's also dirty at bowling.

Alien D - Tripper

Brighton-based producer @Tamlinspeaks brings his Bitter Fruit EP to Scuffed Recordings, showing his broad approach to production across four varied tracks.

Although the EP is Tamlin’s debut on Scuffed under this alias, he has previously appeared as part of the duo Heritage, whose releases have included some of the most defining tracks on the label. In comparison to the high-energy breaks and bass-led production of Heritage, the Tamlin alias shows a more introspective sound - spanning melodic electronics, broken techno, hybrid dancehall, and soaring breakbeats.

Opener ‘Bitter Fruit’ - focussed around a hypnotic marimba melody - was debuted by label owners Wager and Ian DPM on Rinse FM back in 2020 and has been the subject of countless track ID requests since.

Next up is ‘Diazemax’, which comes across like a sequel to some of Heritage’s earlier work such as ‘What U Wearing’ - all at once heavy, percussive, and floatingly melodic, while third track ‘Flutter in Blue’ slows the tempo to 100bpm for a weighty, dancehall-influenced roller.

To close out the EP, Tamlin recruits fellow Brighton producer Parry on ‘Rush’, the most intricately-produced track of the release - with reflective pads swirling around winding percussion.
