Keys To The Highway

I remember turning on MTV and seeing a futuristic apocalypse set to a dance beat.  In the middle of it all was some shirtless, snarling dude with his fist in the air.  The guy was Billy Idol, and I’ve loved the song ever since.  It was actually first released by his band Generation X with harder guitars in the mix.  My version is a different approach than either of those to say the least.  Slowed down as a piano ballad, I thought the recontextualisation of the lyrics evoked a kind of loneliness.  I started playing it this way one night last year, and it stuck with me.
