Bem-vindo to another journey into Brazilian music. 

I: have done a few mixes of Brazilian beats and sounds now for Gouranga over the years. This one I have chosen to call the Bem Gelada Mix. This phrase is what you say in Brazil when you want to make sure the beer you are going to drink is super cold. And of course it must always be bem gelada as they don’t drink it any other way!

Many Brazilian people face massive challenges every single day, however I strongly believe that still they know how to enjoy their lives more than in any other place in the world I have ever been. They know how to live a good life whatever their circumstances. A boa vida. And that is often because of the small things that make life good, like making sure your beer is bem gelada, that you are always a good friend and surround yourself with good people, that you dance whenever you can and enjoy good music, and of course go to the praia whenever is possible.

So I hope you enjoy the songs I have chosen. Not so much a mix as a blend of wonderful music as I dig deeper into the music of this marvellous country.

Dicky Trisco - Bem Gelada Mix

HOLY GRAIL ALERT!!! Following on 2021’s massive reboot of Midnight Magic’s seminal classic Beam Me Up, Razor-N-Tape have now unearthed a bit of NYC indie disco history with “I Found Love.”

Although recorded over 10 years ago in Midnight Magic’s nascent early period that produced many of their legendary hits, the song never received an official release; until now it has been heard only by select ears and lucky concert-goers. The package comes with a grip of luminous remixes by Dimitri From Paris & DJ Rocca, Sophie Lloyd, Perel and Derrick Carter, some solicited at the time of recording and some brand new, but all exceptionally fresh!

Here are some words about the song by the band:

“I Found Love" was recorded in a fever on the heels of releasing "Beam Me Up." New York dance music wizard Tommie Sunshine approached us about a co-write saying we should go as big as possible. So we did--it is one of our all time favorite vocal performances from our singer, Tiffany Roth. We had big plans, too, for a release but nothing quite felt right until meeting the Razor N Tape crew almost a decade later. Finally the stage is set, the lights are on, and we're ready. This song is very special to us because it is the last un-released recording of our original lineup. We dedicate its release to our late bandmates Andrew Frawley and Jason Disu. “

Next up on File Under Disco, we welcome you to the modern Brazilian disco world of Processman & Cady who together bring a pair of South American beauties in the form of Adupé & Sou Baiana. With remixes provided by JKriv, Joutro Mundo, and Dicky Trisco.

DJ and producer Processman hails from Salvador, Bahia. A passionate and talented musician, who has played in various bands in his home city, a city famed the birth of legendary artists and as such, his heroes, Gilberto Gil, João Gilberto and Jorge Amado. Processman was introduced to Cady, a fellow Baiana and fine solo artist in her own right, by a mutual friend. The connection was instant, and they started making music that very day.

Fast forward to when Dicky Trisco was passing through Salvador after playing the Mareh festival in Bahia. Processman drove Dicky and a group of friends to local hot spot in Pelourinho, and the first track he played in the car that night was ‘Adupé’. Dicky was blown-away by the track, it’s brilliant Brazilian percussion, the beautiful, layered vocal, the spiritual, boogie-laden vibes and delightful melodies, he was hooked! The second track Processman played was ‘Sou Baiana’. A record deal was already a sure thing, and they hadn’t even made it to the bar!

A year later and the release is ready to let loose its magical, spiritual, boogie vibe. NYC Brazilian aficionado Jkriv - the perfect choice for remixer for this sound - has delivered a truly essential, cosmic disco dub of ‘Adupé’. Dicky Trisco takes on ‘Sou Baiana’ , stripping it down and pumping it up into a rocking dance floor bomb. Finally, Rio’s Joutro Mundo pushes the original of ‘Adupé’ into a deeper, downtempo lush rework that’ll make those Carioca beach bars and kiosks groove at sunset. Further digital versions include Dicky no-nonsense, dance floor focused ‘Ruff Dub’ of ‘Adupé’ and Processman’s ‘Disco Mix’ which draws on more French Disco influences. File this all under Modern Brazilian Disco and let’s vamos!

I had no idea that it would change my life. The people, the places, the experiences, the parties and the change most importantly inside of me.

Since the first time in Barra Grande, I have played every kind of event and every kind of slot available I think with Mareh from NYE to Bar de Praia to Carnaval to Babel to Marisco.

We came across Godi Osegueda from Bones Records on a boat party in Lisboa in July. We liked his international sound very much. So we asked him to do a mix for us. 

A true music lover and vinyl collector his music transcends boundaries and definitions bringing people together. Oh we like that!
