J'attends (i'm waiting)

This came out of a piece I'd been developing over a couple of weeks, searching for variations around a central theme on felt piano. After a couple of less than successful attempts at developing the track with a fixed bpm I ended up freestyling it as an improv with some subtle drones from Spitfire labs Foghorn, a unique and free library of sounds derived from recordings of the Sumburgh head Foghorn on Shetland. 
One of the options in the labs library is a selection of engine room noises from the two diesel engines that power the foghorn, I wondered whether the engine room could stand in for percussion on the track and here is the result. Thanks for taking time out to check it out.

Asteroids are rocky objects revolving around the sun that are too small to be called planets. They are also known as planetoids or minor planets. There are millions of asteroids, ranging in size from hundreds of miles to several feet across.  Of the roughly one million known asteroids the greatest number are located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter in the main asteroid belt.  
An Earth-crossing asteroid is an  asteroid whose path around the Sun crosses Earth’s orbit; these asteroids cross Earth’s orbit on an almost continuous basis. Astronomers have mounted searches for objects that closely approach Earth, partly to determine whether they may collide with the planet, since early detection might make it possible to avert a catastrophe. It is currently estimated that there are about 1,000 Earth-crossing asteroids larger than 1 km (0.6 mile). Asteroids in inner solar system planet-crossing orbits move back and forth among the various kinds of such orbits before eventually colliding with a planet or being ejected from the solar system. Impacts of 1-km-size asteroids are believed to occur a few times every million years. Such a collision would deliver the explosive force of several hydrogen bombs, possibly resulting in global climate disturbances or huge tidal waves. The impact of an object about 10 km (6 miles) in diameter is thought to have caused a massive extinction of species, including the dinosaurs, at the end of the Cretaceous Period (66 million years ago).
For clarinet, bass clarinet, contrabass clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, harp, metallophone, bass, virtual instruments, tubular bells, timpani and percussion.

Cosmic Danse - Waltz Of The Asteroids

This is a song that began with me laying down some bass, organ, piano, synth, and slide over a looped, heavily delayed guitar riff. I asked Ken to put some drums on it, which he did to perfection, as well as added some acoustic guitar. I then sent it to Tez, and asked him to come up with a lead part for it. He also delivered exactly what I wanted to hear. We dropped the initial looped guitar that was the whole basis for the song to begin with, which I think is pretty cool. Tez mixed and produced this, and what a fine job he did, too, as always. these two guys are wonderful collaborators--so talented and so easy to work with. What I told them was that I wanted to make sober people feel high when they listen to this. I hope it has that effect on you!
