If Coke made a lemonade flavor. This is a playful, quirky, left of center, indie pop summer love song. It starts with a lush glassy organ pad and delicate octave vocals. At 1:00 the track begins to speed up ultimately landing on a Jon Bellion meets Broadway-style up chorus. Verse 2 introduces drunken gang vocals that will leave the listener wondering what type of lemonade is being consumed. The bridge will take you back to chorus class with the “Sound of Music" style do re mi.

“Riptides” features top Atlanta saxophonist Eric Fontaine on tenor & baritone sax. The track blends traditional jazz big band instrumentation: acoustic bass, drums, piano, strings, & horns with modern 808s and programming. Meg’s sassy-saturated-&-burlesque inspired vocals push and pull with Eric’s vintage tear tone ultimately landing on a bridge (2:06) that build and builds before swiftly and fully descending into a deep sea soundscape as Eric’s dueling tenors envelope Meg siren-esque calls.

“1985” starts off with a crackle and an M83 style synth hook. Verse 1 drops into a slower groove and introduces some of the vocal textures that weave in and out throughout the track. Once the chorus hits it’s roller rinks, school yard harmonies, and gang vocals for days. This up tempo feel carries throughout the rest of the track and is joined by boom booms, boom chicka booms, and vocal tracking banter.

It’s been a pretty rough year… but we still believe in the catharsis that music brings and are hopeful that these two songs can be a call to action for folks to get out, vote, and be heard.  The vocals in “Hope of a Nation” pull influence from bands like Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots, but with decidedly gospel choir inspired tones and presentation. The original lyric was scrapped (minus the “Hope of a Nation” refrain) to more accurately depict the frustrations that have evolved and festered in the wake of the global pandemic and political/civiil unrest in the US and abroad.
