"Tears of Joy" is the first song of the song cycle  "Songs from the riverside apartment" created by Betty in a London apartment near the Thames. 
Song ideas then travel to the tranquil countryside of southern Germany where Thomas finds inspiration by playing on his grandfathers cello (a Spiegel Cello 1940).
