Skeleton: Moment Of Reprieve

Plank is an idea which turned into an experiment. All the guitar tracks were recorded dry using my smartphones microphone so I could hear how the different parts would fit together. I enjoyed the results so much, I then decided to further things along by applying edits and effects. The initial "drum" beat you hear is a sound loop of me banging out a rhythm while sitting outside at a table.

Sketch 1: Plank

I was inspired by Sicilian Folk music when I created the backing rhythm where the idea is to emulate the sound of waves rocking against a boat. This particular sound and feel was said to be quite familiar to the parishioners who would have originally heard the song. I added an additional track of ride cymbal which was recorded in my closet. At one point I accidently hit a few empty clothes hangers with my drum sticks creating a nice plastic "crackle" and decided to leave it in for a nice touch.
Also, while I consider Between Creases an instrumental project, I knew I had to add the vocals. It turns out this song was a challenge to sing while trying to figure out a feel for it and work through my nerves.

Silent Night

I wanted to add something additional to this release but I wasn't sure what. I had the idea of using a drum machine and when I learned the chords on ukulele everything fell into place.

Silent Night (Alternate Version)

Taking a chance, I'm presenting a continuation of my 'sketches' concept. The idea behind this track was not to worry about nailing anything "perfect" down, but rather just hitting the record button and begin playing. Sketch 2 is essentially the sound of me working through some ideas inside a minor scale with a good dose of effects behind it. For some reason, this has become a fun exercise and a go to for a while now which is bringing to life some interesting things.
The audio was directly picked up from my headphones while plugged into my phone which created a strange ambience.
