this summer was a hard one for lots of us. the continuing opioid crisis; loss of loved ones; wealth inequality; financial anxiety; housing insecurity; increased political tensions; coming to terms with hundreds of years of patriarchy, colonialism, and racism; the climate crisis; mental health... even in the middle of a dancefloor, epicentre of fleshy joy, all these pains and tensions are palpable in my mind and on the faces of those around me.

some manage to dance the anxiety away; most don’t, truly. the outside world lies in waiting, beckons from the glow in our pockets; our inner worlds in turmoil, malnourished by our distraction.

i feel called, as many of us do, to slow down. to truly listen. to see the hurt. to nurture the child inside who mourns his lost story, to give him permission to imagine a new one - and to let all movement come from that place.
this will be the last thing i put out as ‘bevvy swift’. as a musical identity it has been as amorphous as i have, but it also comes with certain expectations - perhaps mainly from myself - expectations i don’t feel align with the world my child inside was called to create. i seek alignment. time is only getting shorter. i want to be a clear and strong and gentle and honest guide to that child. i want to look him in the eye and tell him he can be brave and soft and true, even while we stare into the abyss. i want to tell him we can create that world. and i want to tell you the same.
