Giulia Fournier-Mercadante (GiGi FM) is a multi-disciplinary artist, DJ, resident of NTS Radio, dancer and music producer. Boldly versatile, GiGi FM’s selections have charmed bodies on dancefloors all across the world, such as Berghain, Rural Japan, Draaimolen, Fabric, De School, Primavera, The Bunker New York, and Sustain Release. In the booth her genre-defying spirit is in full effect with techno, bass, breaks and ambient all coming in to play.

Deeply influenced by astrology, philosophy and the cosmos; for GiGi, music is both a tool for expression and introspection. As a multi- hyphenate artist, she continues on her quest to push artistic boundaries and hold space for unique audience experiences. Whatever medium she may adopt, the result is a rich embodiment of the interconnectedness of sound, colour, movement and metaphysics.

Like the beginning of any dream, my subconscious fills in the gaps. “Where am I?”… I’m on the moon. “How did I get here?”… I’ve always been here. My dialogue subsides as an uncertain planet enters centre vision. A ‘chinese-whispers' Earth, with geographic features lost as rumour spreads through the cosmos. Though the solar path is obscured, I see no sign of darkness on the planet, only faint projections of unanswered questions and manifestations of doubt. As the projections focus, and words become more visceral, I turn away and walk towards the Sun.

With five years of releases under their belt, London’s DEXT Recordings are legendary curators of some of the most forward-thinking electronic music the UK has to offer. To celebrate the milestone, they’ve delivered 'eleVAte Vol. 1’, a 4-track compilation featuring some of their heaviest hitters. Track by track, the release is steeped in a dynamic spread of UK sounds, with plenty of bass weight and life-affirming synths added for good measure. Our pick, ’Eclipse’ by Pugilist is a skippy ode to the garage days of yonder, brimming with swing, bass and lush Rhodes stabs.

Listen here to the fifth hour of my 10h set that I played for my birthday in 2014 at the legendary Output Club in Brooklyn. 

How I miss DJing in clubs, in front of all of you and how I miss Output Club and those special all night long nights that I usually did in December around my birthday. This set, which you will get hour by hour on a weekly basis now here on AMFM was one of the longer ones. Output had a very strict no picture policy, so there is no footage from inside the club, I only found one blurry picture from my birthday cake. I started at 11 pm as far as I remember and according to my recording I ended at 9 in the morning. Output was such a special place with an amazing sound system and DJ booth, it was always such a pleasure playing there. You always take things for granted as long as you have them. Output Club had to close down end of 2018. I was very sad then and somehow I am even more now, as these days seem so long ago and I have no idea when I get to do something similar again in NYC. I miss it. I miss the city and its people. I have always had a great relationship with NYC since I started to play there in the late 90’s for the legendary Monday nights at Sullivan Bar, organised by @christiansmith. Time goes by so fast, if we don’t learn to appreciate the moment more, it will all just become a faint memory. Stay healthy everyone and I really hope I will get to see you all on some dancefloor again.
