‘I love MUSIC’ is made of care and gentle touches. that’s why it was kinda impossible for me not to develop some kind of intimate relationship with The Album during the past few months of The Album development.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET — A Dark Dream Trap Album

Wes Craven's 1984 film rebuilt as a 30-track dark dream trap album. Equal weight across Nancy, the kids, Freddy, the dream space, and the parents of Elm Street whose act in the boiler room started everything.

The production slips between waking and dreaming the way the film does. Waking tracks sound slightly wrong. Dream tracks sound slightly real. The border between them is the most dangerous place on the album. The razor glove scrape — four metallic hits in sequence — appears on every track, like the box click in Hellraiser: always present, sometimes buried, always coming.

The parents of Elm Street are the structural origin of everything. Fred Krueger, the child killer. The case that fell apart. The parents who gathered in the boiler room with gasoline. Who thought fire ends things. Fire transforms things. They transformed Fred Krueger into something that lives in the dreams of their children. The album knows whose fault this is. Marge gets a track. Lt. Thompson gets a track. The boiler room gets two tracks. The burning gets a track.

Nancy gets the most human sound on the album, stripped track by track. Nancy who figured out the border goes both ways. Who pulled the hat out of the dream. Who set the traps. Who went under deliberately. Who took back the power she gave him. Nancy who earned Track 27. Then Track 28 — the dream morning that looks like morning. The car. The striped sleeve through the window. The border that looks like ending.

Track 30: the children's rhyme. The razor glove scrape getting quieter. One last scrape. Silence. The scrape again somewhere under the silence. Somewhere under Elm Street. Never sleep again.
