Dear Rohin,

Today I wrote love letters to my Exes. 
I disguised them under the guise of gratitude letters. 
Though, in all honesty, they were apology letters too.... 


1st Letter to Rohin :: Ex-Gratitude

Dear Taz, I am learning that love is amorphous. I am learning that I have been surrounded by so many kinds of love my entire life.

Dear Rohin, 

Do you call it “bristhee” too, when water falls from the sky? It’s raining here in Los Angeles and the skies outside the window of this coffee shop are heavy with gray. The clouds are full, and hell they may be seeded, too. 

3rd Letter to Rohin :: Un-Lovability

Dear Taz, do you think you remain single because in your mind, you size the men you date up to see how well they can answer the question, “What would my mom think?” and you find all of them lacking?

Remember when you were here, how I pulled the car over when we spotted the coyotes? They were gray and there were three. They were scrawny and crass as they ripped through the trash, gnawing on Styrofoam and food covered paper. 

5th Letter to Rohin :: Be Like The Coyotes

I went to the White House last week. They gave me an award. They are calling me an AAPI Champion of Change in Art and Storytelling. Can you believe it? After all I’ve said and all I’ve done, I can’t find a husband but at least the White House is calling me a Champion.

6th Letter to Rohin: The White House

Dear Taz, I began thinking about origin stories and roots–in the same way you spoke about them. We are spending our entire lives trying to dig ourselves into the earth of the cultures around us; we want to belong; we want to participate; we want to grow big and bloom.
