Destination USA! For the latest expedition in our 1 More Mix series, we head all the way to Philadelphia for this almighty D&B session from Des McMahon.

A man of many shades and styles over the years; in many ways his musical journey reflects the development of bass culture in the US from moombahton to dubstep to drum & bass. 

In the past he’s managed Reid Speed’s evergreen Play Me Records and taught at the renowned Icon Collective production school but more recently he’s been focusing on his own craft and specialising in drum & bass.

An early protagonist in the current wave of North American D&B – a territory where the genre is reaching exciting new peaks not witnessed in at least two decades – Des played his last multi-genre set while supporting Skrillex in the mid 2010s. 

Focussing fully on D&B, despite industry peers telling him he was making a mistake, he’s now a frontrunner in the new generation of headliners in America alongside the likes of Justin Hawkes, Reaper, AIRGLO and Skellytn, who he actually use to teach.

In light of his new release on his own label Des McMahon Music – Epitaph / Hard Truth – we caught up with Des to chat about his career so far, the rise of D&B in America and the importance of DIY culture. I met this weeks guest back stage at EDC Orlando in 2023. We immediately became friends and had fun just kicking it and chatting each other up. I had no idea she was a DJ, that she ran her own successful club night, was holding down not 1 but 2 residencies..... I Just thought her and her boyfriend were really friendly and super nice. So not not only is she a good human, She got that MF DNB pedigree son!... Please welcome G FREQUENCY (Allyson Glass) began mixing a decade ago in Miami, FL with a deep love for DRUM & BASS music, crafting sets that are unique, moody, deep and full of that intense energy that we all get hype for. She has played across Florida with various crews: RENEGADE SOUND, UNITED DNB, BEATCAMP, STRANGE BASS, PUBDUBS, recently appeared on STRAGEWAVES RADIO,  featured on GLOBALMIXX RADIO. Current residencies are with recently rekindled STANK LOVE, started in 2010 by Miami’s finest STEREOTYPE and a monthly called ALL YOUR BASS with MC NOME at Tenth Level Tavern. Forthcoming, collaborations worldwide.

We kick off 2017 with a fresh mix from Leeds local talent Cruk, who joins Dispatch for his debut release next month, entitled “Bad Faith EP”. His superb production skills have been honed over the past few years and we’re excited to show you what he’s got in store. 

The mix featuring all four tracks from his EP, remaining dark and rolling throughout, with music from some of our favourite artists both on and off the label mixed in with his own releases and a few unknown tracks for good measure.  

Set for release in early February, pre-orders for Cruk’s debut EP will be on the Dispatch web store and Bandcamp very soon – in the meantime, we hope you enjoy the mix and the clips from the EP.
