'SEMXX5 marks Johney’s third release on Soul Ex Machina and reinforces his role as a core member of the collective. The EP explores dubby 170 bpm halftime and deep drum and bass through a stripped-back, primal approach focused on weight, space, and control rather than excess. Built on sub pressure, repetition, and atmosphere, the release feels physical and intentional, drawing from sound system culture while remaining introspective and restrained. Dub influences appear subtly through texture and negative space, creating a hypnotic and immersive mood throughout. Johney's SEMXX5 sits between conventions, music for dark rooms and heavy systems.'
