3 QUESTIONS to BIESMANS:

Q: Talking about your mix, a vinyl only selection: How did you select the tracks and what do these records still mean to you?

A: I started buying (mainly Trance) records in '97 and I decided to put a mix together that shows my evolution over a time span of roughly 10 years. You can see it as a journey from playing records at home in my basement till the point where things got more serious and I was playing a lot in (local) clubs. Musically this translates into a trip from Trance to Techno with a pinch House. This mix brought back so much good memories, goosebumps all the way!!!

Q: How did you spend your time since the first lockdown?

A: I’ve spent my time in the studio. It’s my outlet, a way to stay sane and don’t get depressed I guess. I really cannot say where I would be without my music in a time like this. I’m not the type of person that can sit back and ride this thing out from the couch. I need to put my energy into something and that something is music!
 
Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what can we expect from you the next months?

A: I’m doing several things right now. First of all I gave myself a little challenge to make (unofficial) remixes of Belgian 80’s classics. I felt it could be a way to explore different musical territories and its so much fun dive into the music I grew up with. I’m even contacting the original artists behind these songs and they all love the idea! Apart from that I’m also focussing on new originals and also a few remixes for some amazing artists! This year there will be coming new music on a monthly basis so keep your ears pealed!

Born and raised in Belgium, Joris Biesmans aka Biesmans made his move to Berlin in 2013 where he started working as sound technician in one of the city’s most iconic clubs, Watergate. When not tuning the club’s sound system, he could be found amongst his beloved synthesizers, honing his studio craft.

Having recently quit his technician job to focus on making music full-time, he’s a new addition to the W-agency roster and follows suits with an impressive debut EP on the Watergate label.

Next to strong releases in 2019 on labels like Correspondant, AEON, 17 Steps or Future Disco, he also got noticed on the social media for his unique POV sessions. In these point-of-view videos, Biesmans shows his live skills and guides you trough his hardware heavy studio set-up. 2021 will be the year where he takes this craft to the stage...

I’m Biesmans—Belgian-born, Berlin-based. I make “Heart Groove”: house music that’s supposed to do three things: make you move, make you feel something, and connect you with the people around you.

The sound? Warm grooves, analog synths, melodies you’ll remember on the way home. Nothing overly complicated. Just music that works on a dancefloor — the kind that needs a few hours to really take you somewhere.

I’ve played some incredible club spaces: Panoramabar, Fabric, Fuse, Dedge. Festival stages: Tomorrowland, Pukkelpop, EXIT, Fusion. And plenty more rooms in between

My music’s been released on Running Back, Turbo Recordings, Correspondant, and my own label MUEM Records. Made an album called Trains, Planes and Automobiles, and put together the Watergate 28 compilation with people like Mathew Jonson, Zombies in Miami, Kasper Bjørke, and Shubostar.

I’m passionate about synths — spend way too much time in the studio messing with machines and posting (POVs) about it. That’s how the music gets made: trial, error, and finding sounds that hit right.

Currently working on a new album for 2026. Same mission as always: create moments on dancefloors where people lose themselves, feel good, and remember why they love this music in the first place.
That’s it. Physical, emotional, social. Everything else is noise.
