The 2-step is strong on the west coast of Australia. Hot off the press from Boorloo (Perth) elbarto delivers his debut release for Big Ting Recordings. A sub heavy fury of 2-step goodness, the release; a collaboration from Australia’s west coast to east coast.

The title track, Say Something combines classic hoovers with modern dark UK garage flavours, transporting the listener straight to the early 00s. The wobbly thumping basslines makes listening on a big system an absolute necessity.

Here in NSW, we've hit the end of the lockdown. The sun is shining, and what better way to celebrate this special month with some 2-stepping grooves from Inner West local, @bisoux2050.

A staple of Sydney's bass music renaissance, Bisoux is known for her club-ready production and edits, bringing energy and fun back to the original garage sounds.

This mix feeds us an hour of unstoppable steppers, wubs, and untzs, with familiar melodies and edits putting both modern and classic UKG sounds on exhibition.

Crack open a tinnie, sit in the sun, and skank out to some delightful steppers brought to you by Bisoux.

BTRMIX 029: Bisoux

Sydney staple, Splitch, brings to us his debut release for Big Ting Recordings, a sample-heavy juxtaposition of deep basslines and vibrant breakbeats. The A-side ‘Apex,’ a summertime anthem, combines melodies reminiscent of the hardcore era and the crunch of modern day broken-beat music. Track two, ‘Mesmerized’, again pays homage to some classic bass music sounds, a 2-step driven rhythm, with LFO driven basslines set to tear down any low-lit warehouse. 99 Nissan Patrol rounds up the release with his half-time drum & bass influenced version of Mesmerized, complete with 808 jungle style bass and crisp precise percussion.

Apex/Mesmerized brings to light more of the traditional sounds Big Ting Recordings has been known for since its inception. Driven by saturated breakbeats and basslines, it is an amalgamation of the many different styles of bass music the Sydney-siders love.

After a brief hiatus the BTRMIX series is back to regular programming! Based in Mulubinba (Newcastle) is lover of all things bassy, techno, and weird, @n3bula_aus!

Coming through the scene with a background in dubstep, techno, house and more, N3BULA's eclectic taste in music pushes her DJ sets to cover a huge variety of different sounds, rhythms and energy levels. In recent years she has played her part in supporting the growing underground music scene in Mulubinba, as well as becoming a staple down south too.

In this set you can expect range of ambient inspired percussive bass music, breakbeats, electro and techno. Hop in for a journey of sub bass and polyrhythms.

Jeez louise would you bloody believe it's August already. This month for the BTRMIX series we have one of our humble city's favourite people and DJs, @swisherman!

Known best as a roots member of Dunj and Mood Support, Swisherman has been a staple of Eora's effervescent bass scene for almost a decade now. Whether he's producing beats, spinning tunes, or commanding a dancefloor, Swisherman is a familiar face to almost everyone in the electronic music scene.

Whilst possessing an eclectic taste ranging from techno to dubstep to house to hip-hop and more, this mix specifically takes us through Swisherman's love of minimal drum & bass, half-time, and other 170 BPM related flavours. So strap in for 90 minutes of murk, ambience, and steppers, as Swisherman brings us into the second half of the year with an absolute cracker of a mix.

Big Ting Recording's very own 99 Nissan Patrol brings to the table his first standalone release for his co-founded label. The title track, Codec Tweak, combines the worlds of breakbeat and 2-step to bear a sub heavy frenzy of bass weight and 90s rave inspired instrumentation.

It's 2023, a fresh year, and the BTRMIX series is back for its 7th year! Marking the first mix in what will be a very big year for BTR, is long time friend of the label, bass music connoisseur and all round legend, @jakewindon.

Jake has been making big moves over the last few years, transitioning from raver to DJ taste-maker. He brings an outlook on mixing driven by energy and deep dug selections. This mix is no different, an eclectic compilation of different styles of bass music, including grime, breakbeat, and UK Bass.

Hello and happy February to you all! The next in the BTRMIX series is here and what better way to transition through the end of summer than a deep dank industrial mix from @milenze.

For almost the last decade Milenze has traversed every corner of our city's electronic music scene.  Under her current pseudonym, Milenze has found home with her truest passion of all, raw industrial techno.

This mix draws influences from a number of adjacent genres, with flares of EBM, trance, acid, and electro, it truly shows how Milenze's range and diverse musical background has formed the DJ that stands before us today. Lock in for 1 hour of foot tappin' power with Milenze.

After a little hiatus because of our ten year anniversary parties, the BTRMIX series is back! Joining us this month is one of Australia's most groundbreaking and exciting artists right now, @loicc!

Creating footholds in both Naarm and Mulubinba, over the last few years Loïcc has cemented himself as one of east coast Australia's most influential producers, seemlessly blending Australian style psychadelic atmospheres and timbres with european contemporary bass music rhythms. Peppered in with influences of techno, trance, and breakbeat flavours, Loïcc's brand of percussion forward production and mixing is a truly unique marvel of the current music scene.

Expect all of the abovementioned sounds and more in what has instantly become one of our favourite BTRMIX's so far! Lock in!

Australia’s golden boy of bass music IsGwan steps up with his latest heavyweight release on Big Ting Recordings. Blending grime energy with deep UK bass and 2-step flavours, Vibe Ain’t Lit/Boomshaka sees him link up with Aotearoa’s own Young Gho$t, a name synonymous with sharp flows and dark rhythms. On the flip, Boorloo’s own Burna delivers his distinctive high energy spin on the title track.

Leading the charge on the release is "Vibe Ain’t Lit", a murky yet high-energy roller where Young Gho$t’s menacing delivery cuts through IsGwan’s warped low-end pressure. This grimey anthem is primed for warehouse settings and dimly lit dance floors, a collab traversing the Tasman Sea.

On "Boomshaka", IsGwan flexes his versatile production muscles with a 2-step weapon that’s as hypnotic as it is energetic. Driving drumwork, stepping rhythms, and sub-bass tension make this a must for DJs pushing the deeper side of UKG and 2-Step.

Closing the release, Burna twists "Vibe Ain’t Lit" into a full-bodied high-tempo remix, injecting a fresh dose of percussive heat and dancefloor urgency. Pitched-up energy, swung-out rhythms, and a relentless sub weight ensure this one will hit hard on soundsystems worldwide.

Long-time Sydney/Eora staple, Perchance, joins us for his debut release with Big Ting Recordings. Smooth post-dub vibes are combined with gritty autonomic percussion for a full showcase of Perchance’s incredible talent as a producer. Rotate/Blup combines iconic rhythms of the breakbeat scene with warm harmonies and sequences of the melodic leaning side of bass music. The remix for this release is brought to us by a true icon of the Eora DIY electronic scene, ealing, gifting us a deconstructed glitchy reimagination of “Rotate”.

The title tune of the release, “Rotate”, is a post-dub inspired anthem, combining silky basslines with catchy chopped vocal samples. The tune whilst radio friendly, is dancefloor inspired, bound to introduce some pressure to sound systems worldwide

“Blup” showcases more of Perchance’s unmistakable skills of weaving melody and harmony. This autonomic masterpiece pays homage to the production styles of old, whilst introducing dreamy textures and elements that linger with a quiet, emotive pull.

Stepping up for the remix and closing out the release, ealing completely reimagines the title track “Rotate”, deconstructing the melodic elements into a suspenseful journey of chopped up break beats and glitched out polyrhythms. The 7-minute epic takes you on a voyage exploring the ingenuity and creativity of ealing as a producer.

Warm percussion and beautiful melodies set the stage for Rotate/Blup, highlighting Perchance’s talent as a producer and further solidifying the current strengths of the Australian bass music scene.

We are phenomenally thrilled to have one of our favourite Sydney DJs for the 5th installment of the BTRMIX series. A resident of our recent collaborators, .darkoom, Qu-Zen has been winning the hearts of all (Australia to Europe and beyond) with her effervescent brand of energetic, industrial, acidic magic.

BTRMIX 005: Qu-Zen

We are very proud to present another of the old friends of Big Ting for Octobers BTRMIX, our friend, local favourite, @TGMN. For years TGMN has been passionately pushing the sounds he loves, through a multitude of different party series’ and record labels, helping to push the forefront of Sydney’s taste in techno, bass, and experimental music.

In this mix you can expect huge industrial rhythms, funky electro inspired breaks, and the “biggest of room” atmospheres. Prepare to hear some records you may never get to hear again, it’s a goodun.
