Surprise! Techno! Live @ Fairy Gothmother

This mix is about resistance, soul, hope, love, empathy, soul, and funkiness. It's partially a reaction to the deep outrage and anger so many, including myself, have felt and expressed since November. That much outrage, while justifiable, gets heavy fast, so I started looking for tracks that felt optimistic and free. There's some disco, soulful house, and a few excellent South African house tracks (mostly Black Coffee), and it starts with some of Obama's speech at the 50th anniversary of the Selma march.

(Yet More) From the Archives: Live at Opulent Temple, Tuesday Night 2008

In a fanciful quest to get a set (or 2) from every year at Burning Man I've played here on Soundcloud, here is more unearthed arcana.  This one though is not posting for the sake of posting.  When I look back at all these as a body of work, I consider this one of my best, most favorite sets of all time I've ever played there.

I've referred to this in other postings as a time when 'peak electro' met prime tech funk and break beat, when there was soooo much good music coming out with dirty grooves, indie vocals, and rolling techno inspired backbeat.  I just love every song as it moves through Miles Dyson, Lee Coombs, Justice, Alex Metric, Adam Freeland, Dylan Rhymes, Blende and more.   This is not shaman playa tech sleep house, this is dirty ass intense and distorted playa music that should be played loud.

Like many sets, it also starts with some spoken word.  An intro from myself, and long time friend and conscious moment collaborator at many of my sets, Shahid Buttar (currently running for Congress in SF to unseat Nancy Pelosi).

BigDaddyDoug has been playing music for over two decades...  small venues or large clubs he always connects with his crowd. Completely at home behind the decks BigDaddy brings an amazing mix of tech house, vocal house & jacking house that will even make non-dancers shake their ass!

BigDaddy has affiliations with Bubbles n Bass, Disorient & Big Puffy Yellow, but he found his home, performing with the Philadelphia Experiment (PEX) for the past fifteen years! He looks forward to whatever the future brings. Presently residing in Charlotte, NC Big Daddy is exposing the greater CLT area to how it's done, and sharing his gift of music as often as possible.

Performing with legends like DJ Dan, Donald Glaude, Danny Tenaglia, Mark Farina, DJ Heather & Carl Cox …. he always brings his A game!
