The Leeds based indie-rockers fuse elegant chamber-folk with bittersweet storytelling on their deeply affecting new single.


‘Avalanches’ is the new single from Ocean Rivers, a collection of accomplished musicians with roots across several of the UK’s vibrant underground scenes.  Since coming together in Leeds, they have discovered a remarkable synergy.  On their debut single, they come together to create an intricately orchestrated meditation on self-acceptance.

‘That’s just the way it is, just a series of avalanches,’ the gravel-voiced frontman croons.  Reminiscent of Tom Waits in his prime, the vocals are sincere and primal, bringing a hardened edge to the ornate chamber-folk arrangement.  The song gradually grows in intensity, before releasing all its pent-up angst in a cathartic crescendo.  Despite its bleak subject matter, it evokes an unmistakable sense of wonder.  ‘Avalanches’ is the perfect introduction to an exceptionally promising and unique new act.
