Hailing from Chicago, M.A. Tiesenga is a musician, composer, and multidisciplinary visual artist presently living and working in Los Angeles. As prolific as they are autodidactic, Tiesenga’s creative practice includes not only composition, but print-making, pen and ink drawing, visual scores, and participation in numerous musical groups, including, notably, the Eastman Saxophone Project (“ESP”)—of which they are a founding member—and the grammy-nominated collective Wild Up. Across mediums, Tiesenga balances a rigorous attention to craft, procedure, and structure while simultaneously inaugurating the requisite space for spontaneity, play, and the stranger fruits of creative mysticism.

This track is taken from upcoming full length "Dead In A Ditch" by rarely-seen Michigan act Billowing. Regularly a duo of Scott DeRoche on prepared guitar and Fred Thomas on a spectrum of electronics and tape delays, this album was edited from a particularly inspired session where the band extended to include saxophonist Daniel Bennett, drummer Shigeto and bassist Tim Flood. The collective improvisations took on a tone of mostly bleak, wintery despair that lifted only slightly for the still-dour groove of this tune.

@Jitwam's self-titled debut album " िज़तम िसहँ", sounds as if it's been dug up from centuries past, found in a distant land, made with home-made electronics and instruments. Its otherworldly nature instantly sucks you in and takes you someplace else. 

Born in Assam, Gauhati, in Northeast India, but currently based in New York’s storied borough of Brooklyn, jitwam spent his formative years in New Zealand and Australia, before living in monasteries in Thailand, orphanages in South Africa, and washed out apartments in London.

Of everywhere and nowhere, his music draws influence from a litany of iconoclasts including, but not limited to RD Burman, Moondog, The Velvet Underground, Yayoi Kusama, Jay Electronica, Jay Dilla, Moodymann, Leon Thomas, Madlib and Asha Bhosle.

Across the album he utilizes knowledge acquired through years spent digging through dusty crates, and talents honed as a multi- instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist. A series of stumbling, jazz/soul-rooted beat sculptures, each buried beneath a haze of fuzzy psychedelia, broken microphone blues, and articulated through a freestyled process he describes as “first thought, best thought”, िज़तम िसह solidifies jitwam's spot as a major emerging talent.

Recalling the fourth world dreamscapes explored by oddball songwriters like Connan Mockasin, Clarence Clarity, Jai Paul, Silicon, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, it represents a time of transition and remembrance for jitwam, while still fulfilling the core qualities he looks for in song. In his words, “Music is a refuge. A shelter from the storm. A place you can go to close your eyes.”

Since he first shared his music with IZWID Records boss Kutmah at a Brainfeeder afterparty in London, jitwam has released through Leaving Records, Cosmic Compositions, and The Jazz Diaries (the label he co-runs with Casey Van Reyk and Nigel Mphisa). He’s also written with Inkswel (BBE) and Paul White (R&S), featured on Moodymann’s K7! DJ Kicks compilation and been championed by Gilles Peterson, Alexander Nut, Andrew Jervis (Bandcamp), and Funkineven. Mixed and mastered by Matthewdavid at Stones Throw Studios in Los Angeles,

An artist and environmentalist who has lived across New York, London and Ireland and previously worked with the Gobstopper, Mixpak and Liminal Sounds labels, Orlando’s self-titled album sees him present a naive, angelic take on pop, dancehall and contemporary club music.

Mostly written in New York, Orlando describes the album as “focusing on experiences of near-insanity, depression and healing”, inspired by life in New York, his sexuality and ghosts.

Orlando’s collaborative nature is also at the heart of the record: it features appearances from a cast of creative friends including Mr. Mitch, Yayoyanoh, Octo Octa, Gemmy Dunleavy, Nemesis and Buscabulla. 

Clocking in at a concise 10 tracks in under 28 minutes, it’s a carefully honed record that marks the realisation of a sound that Orlando has been developing for several years now.
