What Fanfiction Can Teach Us

Join a storyteller as they talk fantasy and creative media as a whole, and what we can do to approach storytelling in a decolonial perspective. From gaming in all forms to literature to television and movies, Mercedes is unpacking fantasy tropes permeating Western media and highlighting those employed by non-white creatives.

I’m Mercedes, known informally as Cibby. I’m Indigenous Latinx (from the Taino nation, Cuban branch) and I tell stories. I draw stories. I edit stories. And I scream about stories, especially about decolonizing storytelling in fantasy and media as a whole.
