On all previous occasions, I’d get this melody which I’d hum to & than I’d get my phone & record it. I’d than replay it later & than work on its lyrics. I’d even get these tunes in a dream while I’m sleeping & than jump out of bed & hum it while recording it on my phone, so I’d remember it next day. My wife would get startled in the middle of the night that something was wrong with me, seeing me grab my phone straight out of sleep….hum a tune into it & go straight back to sleep.

This time I heard this melody in a dream & next day it kept going over & over in my head, yet I still didn’t record it. When I finally decided to sit & pen a song from it, I couldn’t come up with anything that worked.

I wrote & recorded 5 other new tracks @ the studio with Simi Rova, but this tune kept coming up in my head. So I sat one afternoon with my guitar in front of the PC with a blank page open on Word, strummed the tune but still couldn’t come up with a concept. So I said a short prayer, & asked the Lord, if he had a message for the tune, please use me as his messenger & give me the words.

Friends & family, all I know is that I was on the net going from passage’s to passages of the bible & jotting down bits. I don’t even know what the links & what the pages were…I just kept putting these verses, passages & thoughts into the song verses & phrasing it into the tune.

When I had completed the song, the lyrics didn’t really make sense to me, but I took it to Simi & we worked on it at the studio. We put in the music & got other musicians to put in their stuff which brought the song to life.

I sent it to some close friends who critique my music. Some complemented me on how fast I seem to be developing as a composer. A fellow Makare member & renown music journalist even commented it as the Best work I may have done so far.

I cannot claim something which I didn't think up myself. I believe that it is not from me, but the one who gives me this blessing.

Going over the lyrics, I get some understanding on what the song means to me. I called the song “The scroll” as in my understanding it was about the scroll of life and that we should prepare for the return of the Messiah.

The peculiar thing though is that while laying the vocals, Simi re arranged the lyrics, unknowingly making the sentence “The remnants of Jerusalem shall rise against the armies of this world” seem like the main message in the song. He just thought it sounded fancy.

Last week a work mate just started sharing with me on the 1st book of Kings Chptr 18 & 19, when Elijah fled to hide from Jezebel. How after God had displayed his power to the prophets of Bhal & the King, Elijah still feared Jezebels threat, until God came to him in a whisper & reassured the prophet on what he will do. He talked of the remnants of Israel, which absolutely jolted me.

1st Kings 19:18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
