VIBE.QUEST.13 | HAKUU

This week's exclusive mix is from Oakland-based producer/instrumentalist Devin Kroes. The mix features tracks from his new release “Whispers from the Trees” out this week on Street Ritual, as well as some additional choice tunes from his catalog. Middle Eastern flavored rhythms merge and meld with intelligently-crafted bass production, holding our attention from start to finish.

Devin Kroes is an electronic music producer and multi instrumentalist with a desire to awaken and inspire his listeners. Based in Bay Area, California, he seeks to sonically recreate the aesthetics of the world around him with squishy bass and sultry strings. His music seeks to create a sense of familiarity while transporting the listener into the depths of the infinite.  He seeks to provide a unique live experience by utilizing live guitar and a looper, allowing him to improvise and making each set immersive and captivating for the listener.  Watch out for this up and comer as he continues to push the boundaries in the roots of world music, bass, & livetronica.

This is our monthly liquid Drum & Bass series rotated by some of the west coasts slickest selektahs including DJ Surgeon, Willisist, Erski, Akela, Reflektor, Totemic, Lasu and myself. This mix is a full spectrum collecton of some of my favorite tracks I've been diggin over the past year. Starting off smooth and jazzy and ending off dark and dirty, I tried to include a bit of each style of Drum & Bass that I love. Really stoked how it turned out and I hope all you heads can dig it!

Andrew Bryant [HullabaloO] is an upcoming jazz pianist/electronic dance producer with ambitions in both the acoustic and electronic worlds of sound. Currently residing in the city of Reno, Nevada, he is chiseling away at a music degree with emphasis on Jazz Piano Improvisation. Alongside this path runs one that started over a decade ago at the age of 15 when a world of musical fascination revealed an electronic canvas for creation. Completely self-taught, he spent the next 10 years obsessively cranking out track after track. Frequently staying up until the morning working on the latest, he has explored an abundance of EDM genres. From Drum & Bass to Psytrance to Minimal Techno and currently Glitch, one thing that is always required in his recipe is a Psychedelic garnish of intricate, syncopated rhythms and a characteristic unpredictability. Here is my set from Enchanted Forest Gathering 2018! I can honestly say it was one of the best times I’ve ever had, playing for a packed dance floor at 2am on Friday night, right before Antennae and with my girls up on stage with me and everyone dancing so hard! I pulled out all the stops on this one and felt like everyone was right there with me, ready to explode with every drop! 

Thank you to everyone who was there bringing your high vibes and to Enchanted Forest Gathering for giving me such a great slot!

[Naughty Princess] Enchanted Forest 2018

“The sorbet is a very tasty treat for those long, hot summer days.”

Sorbet for the Soul is a collaboration between Globular (UK) (www.facebook.com/Globular) and Radioactive Sandwich (USA) (www.radioactivesandwich.com). This project came about from the desire to combine their amazing talents to create a very special conceptual release. Each artist started with the same set of samples and built their tracks around those sounds. Globular cooked up Lemon, while Radioactive Sandwich provided the tasty Mango. They then traded tracks and reinterpreted the other’s original track. Globular created Mamon from Mango, and Radioactive Sandwich created Lengo from Lemon. The end product is a 4 song EP that flows and blends seamlessly, each track containing flavors from the others, much like a tasty summer frozen treat. The artwork was provided by the insanely talented Sid Basu (www.sidbasu.com).
