Medusa was once a beautiful woman who was transformed into a monster, both aggressor and victim, by Athena as punishment for lying with Poseidon in her shrine. She is an apotropaic symbol used to protect from and ward off the negative, much like the modern evil eye. She represents a dangerous threat meant to deter other dangerous threats, an image of evil to repel evil. 

She was beheaded by the hero Perseus, who was sent to fetch her head by King Polydectes of Seriphus because Polydectes wanted to marry Perseus's mother. The gods were well aware of this, and Perseus received help. He received a mirrored shield from Athena, sandals with gold wings from Hermes, a sword from Hephaestus and Hades's helm of invisibility. Since Medusa was the only one of the three Gorgons who was mortal, Perseus was able to slay her; he did so while looking at the reflection from the mirrored shield he received from Athena. During that time, Medusa was pregnant by Poseidon. When Perseus beheaded her, Pegasus, a winged horse, and Chrysaor, a giant wielding a golden sword, sprang from her body.

"I was lined up to play a few festivals this fall and they were postponed due to wildfires in British Columbia. This mix included a bunch of bouncy, hood savvy, BASScentric beats that I wanted to play for the people! Thanks in part to Bonz Blessit, I have dove into Phonk over the last few years. This mix includes some of my favourite phonk producers, Kalibvr, POOTY, OGee-T, and the whole PurplePosse crew. I’ve also been loving the baille funk sound, and one producer in particular, HYALYTE is making really dynamic tracks. It took me a bit to figure out how I could embark upon a baille phonk journey, and I’m so glad that I did! As per usual, I’ve included some of my fav hip hop, grime, dub, dancehall, and even a sneaky drum n bass track in the mix (ayy Shaggy). Biggggggggggups to everyone out there making music and taking chances, I see you and I am so grateful.
