In "Eliane", which is part of the larger project Sounds of People, where I work with musicians’ improvisations, I approach a solo violin work through the mechanism of an ensemble. This ensemble is not made up of different people but of a single person. It is an ensemble made up of Eliane's multiple characters, her multiple lives in numerous places, and the sounds she makes and wants to make. Where is the sound source? How many persons are there, and how close are they to each other in texture, space, and time?  -The composition was built upon a tiny motive of an improvisation recording she made for this piece.

Contemporary Tribes is a part of my ongoing and ever-evolving project Sounds of People. The piece was composed for The Living Earth Show, built upon selected materials from their improvisational sessions in response to my recipe—a written communication framework I create for musicians.

Contemporary Tribes

Bike Öner is a composer and cellist from Istanbul, Turkey, now based in Austin, USA. Her work bridges acoustic and electronic music, exploring themes of proximity, memory, transformation, and the emotional depth of co-presence within mixed realities. Drawing inspiration from diverse data sources, she creates multi-dimensional, multi-directional, and continuous musical experiences that highlight shared human perception.

A second dimension of her music involves blending instruments from different musical cultures, juxtaposing Eastern and Western tuning systems and timbral contrasts. This cross-cultural fusion extends into her electroacoustic practice, immersing audiences in the co-presence of musicians across mediums, locations, and times.
