Bike Thieves are back. On last year’s celebrated “Laura EP”, the Stockholm duo plunged into the sounds of classic garage and deep house. On “Catherina EP”, Daniel Strand and Erik Danielson move in a slightly different direction.

An explosive blend of afro grooves, tribal vocals and deep kicks and basslines, “Catherina EP” lets the rhythmic frenzy of Fela Kuti encounter modern house music. The record also features @Saine, one of Finland’s finest underground producers.

Bike Thieves are Daniel Strand and Erik Danielson, two old-time comrades who have spun records together for over a decade. In 2014, the duo started the mighty open-air party Gården in an industrial zone in southern Stockholm. Featuring local selectors like Maya Lourenco and Tender T as well as foreign guests like Cinthie and Flabaire, Gården has gradually developed into a summertime institution for dance music heads in Stockholm.

Last year, Bike Thieves launched the label Västkransen Records as an engine for their own music and a home for talented producers in Stockholm. Having released their debut record ”Laura EP” in April this year, the duo is now finishing the follow-up ”Catharina EP”, an afro-influenced saga to be released in early 2019.

On the title track of "Catherina EP", Bike Thieves offer a mysterious deep house burner which slowly builds up around punchy congas, sweeping pads and female chants. This is the true story of a fearless woman who climbed the mountains of Mali without any safety equipment.

Two weeks ago, we headed home to Västkransen to host our annual Gården party. This time we had booked local legend Kornél Kóvacs. Playing a little over three hours before Kornél went on was true pleasure. Some of you asked if we recorded our set, which we — stupidly enough — didn’t. However, last night we sat down and puzzled together most of the selection and recorded it. Enjoy!
