Electronic music producer based in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1992 he started to produce music on his self-founded labels No Acting Vibes and Moto Music. Specialized in using a variety of analogue synthesizers and pedal effects, Dan Piu’s productions were known for analogue sounds.

The mix complication is focused on some of Dan's most underground, underrated and forgotten old-school rarities.

You'll notice that some tracks are louder on one side than the other, Dan told us it's from a mini Album released in 1991 which he used and it appears that this record was stamped unbalanced.

Alejandro Romero who released on the label last year offers a trip-hop mix under his Alias Ópalo.

Ópalo is an Ecuadorian project which tends to produce in an experimental way, using drum machines, keyboards and synthesizers. The imagination comes from the history of a wolf who denies to be part of the system he is imposed on.

Ópalo’s first impression with the alias was to be more conceptual and in the process he realized a history was being told. It gives place to music he has loved since college, like Massive Attack, Tosca or Kruder & Dorfmeister.

The idea behind the mix is to put together the most representative tunes of the trip-hop genre. Especially the kind of music released in the 90’s. The selection tends to tell a story of danger and romance. Also its rhythm is influenced by Jamaican sounds, dub, reggae and elements from the hip hop scene like scratching vinyl sounds. The interesting part of the sound is that it’s very futuristic even though it’s kind of old school.

‘’My productions can’t emulate the sound of the 90’s ,but I think they’re very influenced by them.’’ says the artist.

Marseille boys Raf and Vins aka The Signal Phantasm (@signalphantasm) impressed many with their first EP, Holy Bread, which has just been put out on Lumbago (@lumbagoo). Its pumping house rhythms with breakbeat interludes, ray-gun zaps and Snoop Dogg samples got us wondering what a mix from these guys would come out like. So we asked, and they delivered!

Their selection in today's podcast is described by R+V as a combination of cosmic Detroit sounds, futurist techno and avant-garde bleeps and breaks. It's got us more than ready to party with these two sometime in the near future.

"The records used in this mixtape were actually compiled for the season opening of nightclub HALL in Tallinn, where I was scheduled to play a warmup set to Laurine from Slow Life collective. Due to general circumstances the event was cancelled. But to put the mixtape in the context of this podcast series, I have to say, it actually gives a pretty good reflection of my musical habits. That even independent of the certain moodset that I had visualized given the club night the records were supposed to be played at. In the selection I included both new and old records, as well as a few reissues. The latter is in my opinion a most welcomed phenomena as the records that are being reissued are an excellent springboard for going even further with the original history and related producers, record labels, mastering engineers etc. Most of the music I’ve come across in physical format has been purchased online due to the lack of record shops in my area, as I live in a small Eastern European uni town. There is amazing fresh music being released in these times and to be honest I would love to buy more new releases than I can afford. But as I’m usually doing bulk orders the price of new records is truly a downside. I think my biggest challenge is keeping a healthy balance between the old and the new and not being skint in the process."
