This was written over 10 years ago as a George Formby style (Google the name if you’ve never heard of him) ukulele song - a mildly amusing message to Gal to let him know that I was fully aware of the mental health difficulties he was having and that I would always be there if he needed me.

Over the years, we spoke often about the song but nothing much came of it until Gal suggested slowing the tempo and giving it a kind of shuffle beat. As it was about him, I thought he should definitely sing the lead vocal, which I think works rather well. (*Vocalist’s note: It would help if I could still sing…)

You’ll find many personal references to Gal’s life in the lyrics. At the time it was written, he was 63, literally a fatal age for men in the extended Reeves family and he wasn’t having the best of times himself, still wrestling with the grief of a marriage break-up alongside the loss of his big brother and closest friend less than a year before. But even with all of this going on (and not always out of choice) he found there were plenty more mountains to climb.

The transition of the tune from Formby to Albers is a story in itself but suffice it to say that Hans somehow managed to transform it into this rather poignant opus.  He has also made a beautiful film to accompany the piece (see link above). All in all, it testifies perfectly to the reason why Gal’s cleats are somewhat care-worn...and he still has many mountains yet to climb.. (Terry Reeves)

The Earth’s temperature is rising faster than ever, and the consequences are dire. Sea levels are rising, threatening coastal cities and communities. Species are going extinct at an alarming rate. Crops are failing, and water is becoming scarce. This isn’t a problem for future generations to solve—it’s happening right now, and it’s on us to fix it.  

But here’s the thing: we still have time. We still have the power to change the course of history. But we need to act fast, and we need to act together. This isn’t about politics or profit—it’s about survival. It’s about protecting the only home we have. We need to demand change from our leaders. Governments and corporations must prioritize renewable energy, invest in sustainable practices, and commit to reducing carbon emissions. But change starts with us. We can make a difference in our daily lives—by reducing waste, conserving energy, supporting eco-friendly businesses, and holding those in power accountable. As Greta Thunberg said, *“No one is too small to make a difference.”*  

The fight against global warming is also a fight for justice. The communities hit hardest by climate change are often those who have contributed the least to the problem. Low-income neighborhoods, indigenous peoples, and developing nations are bearing the brunt of the crisis. We must stand with them, amplify their voices, and ensure that the solutions we pursue are equitable and inclusive.  

This is our moment to rise up and protect the planet. We owe it to ourselves, to future generations, and to every living creature that calls Earth home. As the poet Wendell Berry said, *“The Earth is what we all have in common.”* It’s our shared responsibility to safeguard it.  

So let’s get to work. Let’s plant trees, clean up our oceans, and push for policies that prioritize the planet over profit. Let’s educate ourselves and others, and inspire action in every corner of the globe. Let’s show the world that we care, that we’re willing to fight, and that we won’t back down.  

The time to act is now. The Earth is crying out for help, and we must answer the call. Together, we can turn the tide. Together, we can save our planet.
