Ozie Cargile's "Creation of The Universe" {2002} is a verismo showpiece for Orchestra.  In only 10 minutes, it is a FANTASTIC audio visual TRAVELOGUE through time and space.
In it are traces of elements reminding one of Disney's 1940 Fantasia with its canon like use of JS Bach that expands from strings to winds and brass to moments that evoke "A Short Ride in A Fast Machine" by John Adams.   One of the most important works YET TO BE WIDELY PERFORMED and CELEBRATED written by a contemporary African American composer.  I am proud to champion it.  THIS MUST BECOME CANON in Orchestra repertoire

Doggett was the orchestra's first Black pre concert lecturer.  Doggett talks about the history of black culture in Black composer music for the program's works-Carlos Simon-"Amen", Florence Price, Symphony#3 and the significance of MARIAN ANDERSON and Conductor Pierre Monteux in San Francisco Symphony history 1937-1945. To Own One's Own Life, the Aria of John Quincy Adams is an aria for 2021 and Black Lives Matter in the wake of the death of George Floyd.

It is one of the great arias to announce and argue the universal value of human rights for captured Africans and for Free Men on the occasion of the capturing of the Slave Ship Amistad off the coast of the young American colonies.
